Hello I'm the new guy here.
I have had depression for a long time and have been through what seems like every med there is. They seem to work for a couple of months then they stop and I'm back at square one. I am not taking anything right now. I was going along pretty well until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting worse. I need something, but I don't know what. Even my doctor is at a loss. Has anyone here had a similar experience?

All sorts of medicine can be like that, sometimes... I don't know too much about all the different anti-depressants out there and everything myself... not a psychiatrist. But... surely, there must still be other options. Do you have therapy sessions along with taking the medication?

I'm sorry if I'm not much help...

But... Welcome to the boards, anyway, and I hope someone comes along soon that knows more than I do... :)

Hello and Welcome to HealingWell and the Depression Forum.  I am Kitt.  I know there are many people who have trouble getting onto the right meds and I went through a lot of them myself.

It is sometimes just a matter of keeping on.  The newest antidepressant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is Pristiq .  I do not know a lot about this med but I do know it just hit the market.  It may be worth discussing with your physician.

If you would like to share a bit more about what your going through we are here and more then willing to listen.

Celey has a really good point, counseling could help. Why don't you check out therapy? If the medications are not helping. it might be more situational depression. Talking to somebody could help the situation. Let us know what you think.

I would like to welcome you to the depression forum. You definately have come to a good place where everybody is kind and compassionate. Very understanding members.

Hi there I'mdown..Gosh sometimes it's soo frustrating when the meds we take are just working as we imagined they would..Speaking from experience - I am wondering if you are going to see your family Doctor or if you may need a referral to a Psychiatrist who would specialise in knowing what sort of meds will work or not. Counselling/therapy is a brilliant idea as suggested. Hope things sort themselves out soon - keep us posted with your progress.

I too wanted to welcome you to the forum.

It took my doctor several tries before they found the right med. I finally had to take a combo of meds to help with my depression and anxiety issues.

As Everyone has said, do not give up...keep trying and I am sure they will find the right ones for you.
