Hello Everyone: Been in chronic pain for years and years, I have TNA ( Severe facial pain ) , Meralgia Parastica, Severe pain to my hips and groin due to severed nerves, A total cervical fusion, Torn bicep and rotor cuff, Lumbar pain, and finally i have to have my left knee which was totally replaced prior to my accident replaced yet again but this time there is a bone problem all my pain came from a careless driver who left the scene of the accident and left me to die.
On a pain scale of one to ten my pain is always at 10, I take Kadian ( morphine ) Norco, for break-thru pain, and thats all.
I went thru every type of anti depressent i believe made and felt like a zombie so i took my self off of them.
Past several weeks i am going thru what my docs describe as a flare-up nd tell me the flare-up may last a couple of weeks to months ! ! to get around i use canes, walkers and a wheelchair. I try and remain active by training service Dogs also my wife and i run a small rescue for German 7 Belgian Shepherds.
I post mostly on the Chronic pain thread but felt pulled to chime in with You guys. I hate taking meds for depression last one was Cymbalta in which i felt nothing from it. I welcome suggestions comments or better yet laughter as it is the best medicine for me.
Almost forgot i ve been thru a bunch of so called Shrinks and all they ever did was piss me off or upset me worse than I was before i saw them. Then its the money they charge for ? ? of course this was my experience and many of You get relief from taking anti depresents and talking and going thru therapy I am only telling my story. Hi Tom,

You have come to the perfect place. And welcome. Everybody here is kind and compassionate and nonjudgemental. I think that you will be happy that you joined our group.

Now you stole my heart when you said that you work with german shepards. That is what I have. I love them and always have had them. I like the belgium shepards too. I also have a small mix breed, pittbull/australiancattledog that I rescued. She was abused before I got her, and very much neglected. I have had her for over 10 years now. My shepard is a spoiled brat. She always has to be the center of attention. But this is all besides the point.

I understand your pain. I have fibromyalgia and deal with the flare ups of that. I spent two years in bed from pain and fatigue. It is hard. I am a lot better now with the help of pain meds and adderall. Also take antidepressants and mood stabilizer. But living with chronic pain can be very depressing. The best thing that I can do is keep moving, the less I do the less I am able to do. And when I do things, I am not able to do a lot, but I have had to learn to pace myself. You probably understand that word. Pace....... But you have to take one day at a time and try to live in the moment. Try not to worry about what you cannot do anymore but focus on what you can do. I know that it is hard to do.

I do go to therapy. It helps a lot. But I haven't always had good therapists. Sometimes you just don't hit it off. But there are many others. The same with the antidepressants. There are many different kinds to try. I know the trial and error can suck, but that is what it takes to find what is right for you.

I hope that this helps some, it is late here and my mind isn't all that sharp, if it ever is.LOL... But I try. I hope that you post more and there is a post on new members and one about us mods too. We have word scramble that we play also. There is also a post on your talents. You might want to talk about training the dogs. I would be interested in hearing about that.

I hope that you have days to come with less pain. I know that morphine is a strong narcotic. Some people hate it because of the tiredness. But others don't feel that. But I understand you must have severe pain all of the time. I find If I occupy my mind it helps some. But I am never painfree as they say.

Welcome to the Depression forum.  I am so sorry you have so much pain and the CP forum is a great one.

I am still trying to find the right AD and I am on Cymbalta but plan to go off of it in August.  I have to see my Pdoc every month and a few other Doctors besides so I understand the mone issue and also my days out seem to be going to the clinic etc.  Baaa.


A couple of giggles for you:

A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says "My dog is cross-eyed. Is there anything you can do for him?" The vet says, "Well, let's have a look at him." So the vet picks the dog up while examining his eyes. Finally he says "I'm going to have to put him down." "What? Just because he is cross-eyed?" "No, because he is really, really heavy."

"Daddy picked them up and looked underneath," he replied. "I think it is printed on their bottoms.

Hi Tom, I am sorry you are in so much pain.  I don't have physical pain but the emotional pain is pretty upsetting.  I have taken Remeron (generic is called mirtazapine) an anti depressant for about 6 yrs.  I am tapering off right now but it has helped me tremendously and made me sleepy at night but that's OK as you take it at night.  Only down side is it does increase your appetitie as most AD meds do.  But since my dose was lowered I was able to lose weight.  Not all theapists are bad.  I have a great therapist - she is a physcologist, an MS, LCSW.  I have seen her for years and she has saved me from all the turmoil I have experienced in life.  If you have a family service clinic in your area that might be a place to start if you are thinking of therapy again.  Just a suggestion though.  I truly feel for you that you are having such a difficult time.  You must be a great person - anyone who likes and cares for dogs is someone special.  Keep posting. There are so many caring persons on this forum who will help you and respond to you. Take care.

Hi Kitt and Karen: Thank you for such a nice welcome. I will chime in but i feel funny since i quit the meds for depression and therapy. I would not want to steer anyone in the direction i took. Everyone is different, I have my wife, two sucessfull grown sons with grandchildren ( grand kids here all the time ) plus my wife and i adopted two autistic children and then are my Dogs my source of entertainment. I want to thank You for the jokes for laughter is the very best medicine and I have passed the Dog jokes on to over thousand people on my global email list for animal rescue.
I most recently have gone thru a very hard time with my pain and i admit that taking the "easy" way out crossed my mind often but is quickly dismissed by my families need for my input and help plus my love for them. Then there are my Dogs that are always into or doing something that causes concern or laughter then life is not all that bad in pain.
I will continue to monitor and give my input as long as i hurt no-one. Thanks again and please keep the jokes coming. Your friend Tom

Aurora: Long story short with seeing a therapist. ( my experience) the first couple of appointments went great then my sessions were short with my therapist always telling me how many thousands of dollars my insurance company owed Him? Several appointments I sat during my therapy time with the therapist on the phone with my Lawyer discussing the outstanding balance owed. then the therapist expanded and bought in other therapist's/ trainess
who would simply anger me so bad i stopped going. I complained to my attorney and was sent a copy of my bill to the insurance company which was so ,so
high and the billing was for all types of therapy i don't remember getting. Real bad experience with therapist's for me.
Before i would ever consider doing therapy again a lot of these questions, concerns would have to be addressed before i would trust them.
Guess I found the wrong therapy group. Here in N.J. auto accident insurance coverage for medical is a disgrace and only a very few therapists/doctors are willing to indur the hassle of dealing with auto medical coverage. Sorry for such a negative response i do believe therapy can help----just gotta find the right one. Thank you for the warm welcome and suggestions, Tom
