I just learned something interesting about SSRIS and dopamine. SSRIS not only inhibit the uptake of seritonin in the brain, they also "hijack" the uptake of dopamine and cause it to transfer to the seritonin receptors instead. So those using SSRIS have less dopamine available in their brains, which may explain the apathy and "whatever" feeling of not caring about much that many users of SSRIS report. Now since Parkinson's Disease is "caused "primarily by the brain no longer producing sufficent amounts of dopamine, the pleasure endorphin, and since up to 50% of Parkinson's patients suffer from depression, this would seem to indicate that SSRIS are a rather poor choice for treatment of depression in Parkinson's patients, and that other meds and treatments need to be more aggresively explored.

This is truly interesting, I don't understand a lot about the dopamine and the seratonin. But trying to learn. Half the time I don't even know how my anti d's work. But they do.

I am sorry that you suffer with parkinsons. How are you doing with that? It sounds like you have some good information. Are you going to talk to the doctor about that? Maybe there are some medications that can treat both. I wish you luck with this.
