I just wanted to share my awful experience with depo. I have severe endometriosis and went undiagnosed for over 10 years. I should have had a hysterectomy back in '09 when I had undergone 2 surgeries while enrolled in a study for chronic pelvic pain. The surgeon had instructed me I needed to take a birth control that would stop my cycle. I tried Lo Estrin 24 (sure I spelled it wrong) but it was really expensive even with insurance. So my doctor gave me a few options and I decided to go with the depo shot since the side effects he informed me about
didn't sound that bad. It stopped my cycle almost immediately. I was on it for about
9 months, put on about
10 lbs, moody, everything my doctor didn't tell me about
, and my relationship with my fiance ended. I stopped the shot which did slowly made me normal again. The only problem was I couldn't handle my monthly cycles, 8 days of hell, a few days of which I couldn't leave the house because it was so heavy and painful. So even though my fiance and I got back together, I went back on the shot, just hoping I would be fine this time. We did get married a year ago, but its taking a toll on our relationship yet again. I'm not me anymore. I'm very emotional, he says I'm mean, little things irritate me, more weight gain, tired a lot, loss of sex drive, acne, dizzy spells, I have no desire to go out with friends much, and now I'm starting to get back spasms constantly. I know he's not happy but he knows it's the shot and it will be out of my system soon. I finally scheduled a hysterectomy, they are just removing my uterus, it has been useless and nothing but problems my entire life. I should have known the shot wasn't for me, I was always on a low dose bc when I was younger because of side effects and had crazy pms. Depo is a horrible drug and should be illegal. Doctor's should give you all the information instead of expecting you to make a quick decision in their office.
