just saw the doctor for the first time. suggested that i try prozac(sertraline) or fluoxetine.
if i start taking these pills, how long until i start feeling better?
i was very much against medications for mental health, but i realize now i need them.
any info??

I've never had sertraline myself, but I was on an SSRI (like fluoxetine) at one point so I can say that you should notice the effects within 1-3 days.

It actually takes four to six weeks to get the full effects from the medication. Anti depressants that is. But sometimes you can feel things sooner than that. But have patience with the medication and give it a chance to work. Report any bothersome side effects to your doctor. Did they give you any information to read with the prescript
ion from the pharmacy? Often they give you something to read about
the drug. And if you get samples, they have info in them too.
I hope that the meds work for you.
Take care,
Hugs, Karen

karen is right. 4-6wks. prozac is more uplifting in it's chemical re-balancing. it has a lot of other uses for other disorders as well. give it time, hoping you feel better soon. jamie

It's not fully built up in your system for awhile, but you'll notice effects within days.
