What color to paint the inside of my house for my depression?

Welcome to HealingWell Depression forum.  I am so happy that you have joined us. 

What colors make you feel good?  For me it is warm colors like yellow, orange red is one but would be too dark.  Maybe in a trim though.  Cool colors are like blue, green and violet.  Though violet could go either way because it has red in it.  Though painting a wall yellow with violet trim would create a deception of movement in your eyes, so that could be fun.  But I myself like warm colors in my house.  But I want to feel warm.  Though you could go with something lighter, you don't want to paint your house too dark, it is hard to light up.  I myself like dutch creme.  It is like white, but not white.  Green is considered a cool color but would look good with your yellow and pink.  being it has yellow in it.  See what colors make you feel good and go with that.  Go to a paint store and look at all of them.  See what feeling you get from each of them and see if some seem depressing and some seem uplifting.  Warmer colors is what I would recommend.  Soft warm colors.

aqua, this is the colour i will use later in the year myself. green for growth, renewal, and sea blue, for waves of calm and clarity, as a combo i think this to be very harmonious. yes i too am all white too, and yes it is very mundane boring and lifeless. welcome lostsoul, and thx for your post, we forget about our home and depression. very topical and thx for your input. cheers, with healing compassion, jamie

I'm also big on houseplants. They're alive, they require some care (which forces me to be a little responsible) and they're cheery. I have quite literally a different color in every room of my house. I agree that color can make a huge difference. My favorite is a bright pumpkin-y orange which I've paired with maroon. (Sounds kooky, but it works). I have a lot of blue too, but nothing dark. I think that's the key.

Having a different color in every room sounds like something I would like to investigate. Maybe a little light blue could go well and I sure like the sound of pumpkin. Would real plants be better because I'm great in the yard but not so good with house plants and I live in the Phoenix area where the Air is on 90% of the time. I'm a 62 year old man so Plastic plants might seem a little feminine? Maybe I should try one live plant a week? I like large plants that go into a 20" pot. I have (8) 22" pots on my patio. My depression doesn't let me make decisions very well. I'm in OKC for the third time in the last couple of month and in Wichita last year for 5 months and I found out that running from myself doesn't work but if you want a way to flush a lot of money down the drain then it's a great way to go.  

Go for the cacti or dracena types -- they tolerate abuse pretty well. And you can keep a pothos in a closet and it will still grow. :)
