Yes, ER is an option. But not what I meant.
In my area there are lots of Urgent Care facilities, outshoots of hospitals in every community. The wait isn't as long there, and it isn't as crowded. Nice when you can't get an appt with a doc, have no doc, new to town, whatever, because they see you, prescribe and can usually tell you a doc to continue with, if you want to. Or you can just always go back there as often as you like. Not for continuing psychiatric care, but one time you might have strep throat, the next time an ear ache, need stitches, anything.
In July I got very dizzy and unbalanced. Husband took me to Urgent Care. They did a lot of tests, thorough physical, gave me an IV and an antibiotic because my white count was a little high, and they thought it was an inner ear infection that might be effecting balance. Also an IV, They made me come back the next day and repeat the blood test to see if the antibiotic was effective.
If they can't handle it, they send you elsewhere. My son was there and passed out, was unconscious, and they had an ambulance pick him up. Another time he had a severe allergic reaction, and they sent him to the ER for an IV and IV meds. My daughter went for anxiety attacks, they prescribed Effexor, and she followed up with a GP. So, they are good at treating just about
anything.
Check with your local ER to see if they can refer you to an Urgent care. And they might have other places for psych care.
But always, if its getting out of hand you have to protect your safety by going to the ER. Know your limits. Take care.
