Hello, sadgirl44,
Frankly, I never could make a fasting diet last long enough to lose
all the weight I wanted. I've never tried Weight Watchers, but I understand that it's good.
The best way to lose weight in my view is to see a bariatrician. The first thing he/she is going to do is to get you to remove all sugars from your diet.
From that, it leads to a reduction of carbohydrate foods, reduction of
amounts of protein you eat daily, removal of milk products, taking
prescribed vitamins and minerals that you buy from the bariatrician
and then watch the weight melt away.
You'll need to increase the amount of water you drink to about
8-10
8-ounce glasses of water each day. Water is a great way to lose weight.
I think the major carbohydrates to remove are generally the corn,
wheat, rice. The green vegetables are best, so eat a salad every day.
Have a small amount of protein at each meal and don't skip meals.
That's what the directions are from baritricians, in part. But you'll need to speak to a professional. I'm not a doctor and can't say that this or
that will work; I can only describe to you what I experienced when I
saw a bariatrician. (And, of course, you have to "weigh-in" each time
you visit, so it's a push to get you to stay on the "straight and narrow".)
Which reminds me, I should go back to see him again!
I think that Tortoise on the Bipolar forum started a diet group at one
time. She might be interested in competing with you if you want to
work with another person on losing weight.
(By the way, the "boys" who are hinting that the weight is a problem for them are not very strong folks, frankly. They might choose a more positive way to advise you, such as offering to run with you or go on
a mild diet with you.)
One factor about
having a carbohydrate addiction (which is often what
constitutes weight gain) is that once you lower the level of carbohydrate ingestion, the craving for more generally is radically reduced so that you may go ahead with normal portions of almost
all foods that are not high in carbohydrates. If you want to know
which ones are high, go online to a sight such as foods high in carbohydrates.com Maybe that will show you which ones to avoid.
If depression is causing you to gain weight (as it very definitely can),
my best advice would be to contact a medical professional and get
help to manage the serotonin receptor sites in the gut and in the brain. Usually, it's the Selected Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors that are
prescribed (or SSRIs for short.)
I hope this helps. If I think of anything else, I'll post again another
time.
Let us know what you decide to do.
Take care.
