I'm a 17 year old girl who is insecure. I don't remember being insecure until recently, suddenly I HEAR everything people say about me. I HEAR every compliment someone else around me gets. I suffer from depression because of never feeling good enough. On top of it I'm a recent high school graduate who doesn't have the slightest clue of what I want to do. I know I want to be passionate about whatever it is that I chose, but I'm not passionate about anything. And the things I'm most interested in are the kinds of things that are "out of my reach" or "far-fetched dreams" that have a one in a million chance of happening. I like it stay in my world of pretend, stay away from reality. Reality is scary and harsh. But, the world isn't going to put itself on hold for me to figure out what ever the hell it is I'm supposed to do with my life. I just need advice, and a vision. Any help would be much appreciated.. xx

how about doing some brain-storming about what you do want to do. maybe you could have have a chat with your carees counsellor at school. a chat with your doctor maybe a good thing as well. he/she can assess your situation and devise some treatment plans for you. you have done well in recognising that you feel depressed, getting in early with your doc will help with this greatly. i wish i did when i was your age!!!! oh how i wish......but now i know better and advocate this strongly. kristi you have been brave in posting your situation, takes guts. keep being brave and seek some assistance. with compassion, jamie

Hi and welcome to the forum. I know how you feel, but I think Jamies advice is very good. Talk to your career counselor and see where you stand and what is an attainable goal. There are things that you can do if you put your mind to it. What is it that you would like to do? Let us know.

wow guys, thanks for all the support and advice.

Karen, i'm interested in a lot of different things so it's been hard to focus on ONE thing that i would like to focus on as a career path. i love music, i write, sing, play guitar and piano. but, it's so difficult to have a career in that. i've also done a lot of acting and stage performances over the years, again, something that's not very practical. outside of those things i've never stayed interested in anything else. so that's where i keep coming to a dead end about a career choice...

Maybe you could teach music. I have a friend that gives piano lessons. Just on the side though. But I am sure you can find a path in the things that you love.
