Deplin and increased checking

Hello. I have been taking Deplin in addition to my other meds Lexapo and Buspar for a few weeks now. I have notice that my checking seems to have increased (I have OCD). Just googled it with no luck. I know I have low Serotonin because I have had test done that check chemicals in brain. I am very hopeful that Deplin will help me. My checking has gone from normal for me to a bit much.... worry ppl will notice my checking, and it is making me feel crazy. Any help is welcome!

Hi PlokaDotsDawn,

Welcome to the depression forum. Though I am not familiar with ocd that much, I do know that there are others on here with it. I take abilify and that helps me. I have a tendancy to talk to myself. It keeps me from doing that. I odn't know if that is ocd or just thinking too much.

Thank you so much for your warm welcome! Sometimes it is hard to tell if a med is helping or if I am just wanting it to. I am glad you have something that helps you. I was diagnosed with OCD at age 11 (but the signs were there since I was very small, at that point I was not functional) and Depression at 14. I think the depression actually started right as my OCD was getting better at age 12. My parents took me to the DR at 14 because I was not eating and then would go in to a binge/purge cycle. I believe (as well as my DR do) that the eating disorders have been and extension of my OCD. Finding out that my Serotonin was low was a bit of a relief.... I always think maybe I just don't try hard enough to be happy or I expect happy to feel better... you know, I blame myself. So to see that it really is a chemical thing (other chemical were off as well) was a relief.

Those dx's are hard. Especially at such a young age. I am glad that you did get to go to the doctor and got treatment. I hope that the dephlin is working for you.

Don't blame yourself for your depression. You will feel happy again, and you will know when that happens. You are handling it well, so just hang in there a bit longer.

Thanks. I guess I should note too that I am 32 now... years of therapy and different meds.

I think you are doing great for all you have been through. It is hard. I didn't start anti depressants until late 20's or early 30's and I am 53 now. I understand that it has been a long rough road, but you are doing better it sounds like, you have a grip on the depression. Keep trying. Keep posting.

Initially, thank you Karen for your acceptance and kind words.

Deplin worked for me in just 3 days. Suffered major depressive diorder for 18 years. Tried Paxil, Effexor, Celexa. Now Zoloft 150 mg a day for the past 5 years - did not do much. My doc casually mentioned Deplin last visit - gave me some samples. I was SEVERLY depressed. He said, "you got nothing to lose, and it won't hurt you". Still taking Zoloft - Started taking 15 mg of Deplin 2 times a day - the change is AMAZING! I simply cannot believe it. Deplin saved my life, literally. Thank You GOD !

Wow! I wonder if my dose of Deplin is too low. I took 15mg once a day for 2 weeks and they dropped to 7.5mg once a day. I had such high hopes that it would help. I am still taking it but I still don't see a change.... Need to tell my DR about you and see what she thinks. My DR is very cool so I think she will be open to me trying a higher dose. I would love to be off the other meds I take and only on Deplin. Thank you so much for sharing!

Oh and my checking is back to it's normal level... the level I find to be my normal. =)
