Pristiq causing depression?

I recently have started taking Pristiq (now day 3).

This is the first time I have ever taken any form of anti-depressant.

My question is, is it normal to feel more depressed the first few days? Does this go away when it works it's way into the sytem?

Hi Patrick,

Welcome to the depression forum. I take pristiq. It takes six to eight weeks to reach it's full potential. Be patient. But you could start feeling better before that. You may just feel it going into your system. I don't think it would make you depressed unless it isn't the right med for you. I would talk to the doctor about any changes that you are going through.

I hope that the pristiq works for you and that you start feeling better soon.

Hi Patrick and welcome.

You should let your doctor know IMMEDIATELY if your depression is worsening. It's normal and most likely means that you need a med change or a different dosage.

Sometimes antidepressants can have the opposite effect. It doesn't mean you can't take them at all. It means you can't take that ONE med (or even that particular dosage).

Definitely call your doctor and let them know you are feeling more depressed. Never let your depression get worse on a new med without contacting your doctor.
