Trying to return to my old self after the disclosure

Hey everyone, how's it going? This is my first post. For a long time, I've been debating whether or not to share my story with strangers on an internet forum. This is really bothering me and I can't afford counseling and never get time to talk to trusted family members and friends to talk about this, so I figured I'd make anonymous friends.

As typical with many guys of my generation and even in today's time, I was born and lived as a fatherless son of a single mother. I finally found my father (which I'm referring to as the "disclosure") a couple of years ago, it was a positive introduction or reconciliation at first, whatever you want to call it. He went to high school with my mother and met up again as young adults, he had an ugly side my mom didn't know of which is why he wasn't a part of my life which I don't want to get into detail for privacy reasons. But what's bringing this short-lived friendship down quickly is the fact that he lets me know that I'm not "the ideal son" of his dreams. I have totally different goals, interests and outlooks on life than he does. Long explanation short, I can accept that he's my biological father but I don't consider him "dad," he's just another stranger.

I just want my old life back, the one I started since birth, I just want to be back to my old self. I feel the only way to accomplish this is to tell him that I think it would be best to go back to our old ways and pick up where we left off at our previous lives. Would this be a bad idea? Thank you for reading this, I'm looking forward to others opinions and advice.

Thank you very much for the kind welcome! Not knowing him bothered me a very long time and now that I found him, I'm not going to let this disappointment hold me back.

I am not sure. How badly does it need to be said?

I like to think of myself as strong and tough. I really don't think I would feel guilty because he's not a caring individual to begin with. He's already hinted that he prefer me not to attend a family funeral whether his father or anybody else in his family pass way.
