New to forum, dealing with chronic depression:

I'm very happy to have found this forum. I saw my therapist today and mentioned it is so hard to explain to people how you feel or why you are depressed. Unless they have experienced it they just don't seem to get it. So I have stopped doing that. Finding a venue where I can talk with other people dealing with depression gives me much hope. My mother suffered chronic depression, was institutionalized for two years, had shock treatment all of it during my high school years. She eventually got through it but the process almost cost her her marriage, and no one understood. She past in 1999. I certainly wish she was still around because I totally get now what she was experiencing. As far as I know chronic depression is genetic and I seem to be the lucky one in the family to have it.

For me I suffer from a chronic illness and chronic depression which is very tough. I am now disabled from my job, and trying to deal with both. It's wonderful to have this resource. So we can help one another and learn what works for one might be the answer for another.

Just wanted to check in and say hello. I look forward to communicating with other members so we can all try to heal together.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the history with your Mom. This of course does not mean you will go through the same thing. there are many more options out there now and a lot of "skill" to be used by the patient themselves to make us more proactive in our care and daily life.

Keep posting, glad to have you here. We listen and support each other the best we know how.
