Hello brigny:
Therapists do vary. And by therapists, I'm referring to a trained psychologist. I've seen three different ones over the course of time. The first one was excellent, and I think I got lucky. It was shortly after a divorce, and I did see her weekly for many months, then gradually tapered off - but over a period of well over a year. I know people who have gone thru three psycologists after a divorce before finding one that would help.
The other two were much shorter lived - mostly due to the reasons for me going. And one of them was fair (at best) and the other one is good and still am going.
Please do give non-medicinal therapy a strong chance, and as BnotAfraid said ... be brutally honest ... and then investigate the journaling.
Actually, it seems like you have a good start on journaling .................!
