I can't seem to shake it.

I am 42. I have two children and an ok marriage. I had spine surgery about 16 weeks ago. The surgery went well but I started feeling very anxious and nervous three or four days after surgery. I went right back to work but emotionally I felt horrible. I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning and would cry at any little thing. It was awful. Surgery was a breeze compared to this. My doctor diagnosed me with severe depression and possible Bipolar disorder. I am taking Seroquel 100 and Lexapro 20. It has helped but after about 2 monthes on it. I can't cry. I don't feel much of anything. I am functioning but not living. I can 't seem to get over the hurdle and enjoy stuff again. Any suggestions? I always thought this was BS when someone said they were depressed. I know different now but I can't shake it. Suicide and complete withdrawl have been thoughts in my head but I have too many responsibilities to even consider such.

   I know meds can react differently with different people - especially with other meds taken. But .... I have been on Lexapro - 20mg now for 4-weeks and my emotional extremes have leveled off a bit.

   I have been on Lupron, a hormone therapy, for well over two years, and I know the Lupron often creates emotional sessions that can get pretty strong. The Lexapro seems to have quieted down the emotions without destroying them ... at least so far!

   Maybe it's the seroquel then. Hopefully, someone will be along soon with experience on that.

that is the misconception of therapy. You do not need a "bad" life to benefit from therapy.

Learning how to deal with the daily stressors is enough benefit to make the skies blue again; voices go quiet and sadness turn to joy.

I would give it a six week try, and see if anything pops to make you say AHA! I feel a bit better here.
