Hi taintedangel ; )
I usually hang out in the Chronic Pain forum but happened to see "EMDR" and it caught my eye. I went through EMDR about 6 or 7 years ago when I was in the midst of a very severe depression. Well, actually, at that time, I believe I was starting to emerge on the other side and reaching the point of insight.
For me, it was an awesome process - absolutely awesome. The key to this success was multifaceted. First, I completely trusted the therapist doing the EMDR - we had been working together for some time. Second, she was a very skilled professional and truly knew what she was doing i.e. how far to push, when not to push, etc. Third, I was ready i.e. strong enough emotionally at that point to embrace whatever came up for me.
Each session that we did was very intense for me - I didn't have memories that I was completely unaware of persay - but the memories that did come up were much more detailed and therefore more upsetting. She had me prepared for this. I cried quite a bit in each session and I had an "aha" in each session - huge aha's as a matter of fact. I really was able to push forward with this therapy - it was perfectly timed in my treatment and done very skillfully.
I do caution this is not for the timid or very emotionally fragile patient. I see it as appropriate when the patient has begun to find his/her voice and self-esteem. Since I don't know you at all, I obviously can't even begin to guess if this is the right timing for you. If it is and you trust this therapist and know she has been thoroughly trained in EMDR, this could be a fabulous opportunity for you ; )
I am having surgery today so I won't really be around until Friday - if you have any questions at all for me, I would be more than willing to answer - it just might Friday or Saturday that I am able to get back to you ; ) Either post here or you can email me @ [email protected].
Good Luck!
