confused Hi Everyone,
I posted a while back but since I have gotten much worse (depressed). I feel so alone. I used to have a facebook account but when I go on it and see my step brother and step sister within miles from me and did not even call to say can we meet up. I am 52 + years old, the only odd one of the family (different Dad). The parents have been gone for over 20 years. I deactivated my account on facebook because it hurts too much to see that family. Please tell me does anyone feel alone along with depression. Do other people not have much family and friends??? I just need to know I am not alone.

You aren't alone here. I know how you feel, my sister keeps coming up and passing right by my house and never stops. I try to understand, but it still hurts. I know she is busy, but I feel I should count for something. I quit making an effort to see her. I read on fb too when she is up here. It makes me feel bad, but I don't let it ruin my day if you know what I mean.

I have very few friends. They never seem to have the time, but I try to understand that too. I have made good friends here though, and I value that very much. You all know who you are!!!

I hope that you feel better soon. Do you see a therapist? It really helps.

I want to say thank you Karen. It really means so much when you feel that you are not alone in the world. Also, that things happen to others as well. I am going to try to get in to see a therapist soon. I will keep posting.

I'm the same. I was raised by a step father and with a half sister. She was always doing things with her family. I felt very left out.

They only contact me when they want something. All you can do I live your life. It's their loss.

I know that feeling of only getting contacted when somebody wants or needs something. It stinks. But we have a choice on how we react to this. I try not to let it bother me, but I must admit that doesn't always work.

Yes, I think I've felt alone my whole life really, the depression definitely did a number on me, I have 2 good friends and 2 daughters for family, that's it (married but that's another story)

We just have to go on with our lives, therapy does help a lot.

Hello ........

   Just to let you know you're not alone ... or even close to being alone.

   I had a small family. All members older than I are gone - passed away! I have two daughters with two grandaughters. One of my daughters moved 1100+ miles away a couple of months ago. The other daughter doesn't have time for me. And she's the one who has my grandaughters.

   I had three good friends (male) that all passed away. My last relationship partner (female of course) left me after my metastisized cancer diagnosis a little over three years ago. It was too much to deal with.

   On Fathers day, I did get two calls ..... but, I spent the whole day either with my dog or sleeping!

   Your not alone!!!!

Same here! 51 now...

Close family gone, no kids, tried all through school and college to make friends and stay in touch. Reconnected with a guy I thought was dead after 6 years of no response from him to emails. He was excited to hear from me, claimed he never got my emails or messages, lots of promises to stay in touch and... Nothing. I'm done trying to stay in touch with him. I tried over and over to make and keep friends everywhere I went... To no avail. Save for a couple people, and one is drifting away.

Work at home, few friends, no facebook but twitter disillusioned me too, same thing. Blogs, nadda.

My heart goes out to you, you are not alone!!

Hey Maureen and My Anxiety Life ...........

   I've been on this site for a year now. It has helped to fill some of the voids of a lonely life. Hope you both find this site or forum as beneficial as i have.

   There are other things you should consider too. Support groups can be very helpful and sometimes even in developing friendships. Try the newly formed book club here if you're into reading - or anything else that involves a personal interest.

   Many things can help.

Love the support I've seen here (I've been a regular on all sorts of message boards for hmmm.. Over 15 years I guess). So I appreciate the kind words.

I'm getting the book and will jump into the convo, or the daily check-ins.

I hope to get to know everyone here and add my support.
