Venlafaxine /Cymbalta and indigestion/heartburn

Hi all,

I tired Cymbalta a while ago and experienced terrible and worsening indigestion/heartburn after the first few days - when the other horrible side effects started to wane. My Dr has now prescribed the other SNRI Venlafaxine. And even though I'm on a low dose, I am beginning to get similar stomach acid problems after 3 days. I really want to persist with a new drug beyond a week, but do not want to go through the same as before - feeling better in some ways but having to stop due to side effects that INCREASE with time.

Has anyone on Venlafaxine or Cymbalta experienced indigestion/heartburn / stomach acid and have it GO AWAY with time? (I was on Cymbalta for 2 weeks and the heartburn persisted for weeks after I stopped it).

Really appreciate your input. I have been trying to find an alternative to my sedating Tricyclic for years - unsuccessfully. I like the effect of the SNRIs - which give me focus and energy - but could not tolerate the stomach problems.

thanks for getting back. Yes - it is definitely the meds. I experienced these symptoms for the first time on Cymbalta after a few days taking it. On day 3 of Venaflaxine the same is starting to happen. If I thought these would go away with time, I would keep on - as the effect of the Cymbalata was otherwise excellent on me.

I've been searching the forum and internet for others who have had this specific side effect, but can find no one. I would love to hear that this would go away (I have been taking Lanzoprazole while on Venaflaxine)

Welcome to the forum.

Most likely this is from the meds, I experience the same thing.

Drink at least 16 oz of water with the medications. I also eat a yogurt after taking the med. This avoids all heartburn issues 98% of the time.

For those times, when my PRN or I neglect to follow my own rule
I have tums and the liquid stuff, forget the name. The liquid works faster.

I also to do order anything with tomato sauce while out, they never cook the acid out. Asking trouble there.
