Gave in and started on Cymbalta..does anyone have flushing?

Hi there - I started on Cymbalta yesterday and have the same effects as you.  I did not sleep one wink last night (took it about noon yesterday) and I have a "buzzing" or numb/flush feeling.  I am totally nauseous and haven't eaten since I took it!  I hate it so far.  I called my dr office and nurse said to ride it out and call back in 2 WEEKS!  I am spending way too much time reading up on it on the net and getting scared about it's effects.  The packaging said to take it at night so I will try tonight before bed to see if it will make me sleep.  If I lose another night sleep I will be pissed cuz I have three kiddos to take care of.  TIA

I have the flushing as you dscribed too. I remember when I first took it I could not sleep for the first couple of nightsand was SO tired. Then all of that changed and I was able to get sleep at night and be alert in the daytime.

I would check all of the posts on Cymbalta and if things continue to get worse, like the eating problems then I would call the DR. BEFORE the 2 weeks are up.

What Cymbalta did do for me was to allow me to think clearly for the first time in years! My family noticed that my personality was back to normal before I was having a bi-polar problem. I have many interests now.

My daughter is on cymbalta now, so I've been looking ahead to when she comes off it.

One person said the doctor prescribed xanax (don't know if it was the newer long lasting or old) for the withdrawal period and that it worked perfectly. Another said that stretching the time between doses worked.

The MSDS says the pellets are extremely corrosive to eyes and the throat, so don't try splitting the capsules.

Does anyone know the range of time withdrawal takes? I haven't found that anywhere.

Yes, I should have said the doctor is critical too. We just happen to have a really great one, who's easy to talk to and knowledgeable, so I didn't think about it.

No, you didn't scare me. I was already scared and still am. It's an educated sort of scared, like knowing enough to know I shouldn't play with electricity. I see this as doing exactly that, playing with the wiring in my daughter's head.

With no personal knowledge of any of the drugs used or how people react, I flipped out when she told me the counselor suggested drugs. I decided I couldn't stop it. I wanted her to be under the care of a doctor I knew and trusted (I don't know the counselor). So I got her in with a doctor I've known and trusted implicitely for 30 years. (I'm not the kind to trust doctors.)

He prescribed cymbalta. I read the mfg document, the MSDS, and as many threads and articles as I could find on the internet. I read about miraculous results, I read about disasterous results--and everything in between. With soooooo much variation in personal responses and the way cymbalta and flips from good to bad quickly, I'm still scared--and no one scared me. It's just sensible to be scared for someone you care about.

That said, the results with my daughter have been nothing short of miraculous. She is a delightful and assured now. She is cracking jokes, laughing and having fun with people. After a string of intense relationships that made her sad, seeing her like she used to be is wonderful. She is thinking more clearly than she has in 10 years.

Now if the combination of drugs and counseling work, maybe in the future she won't loose herself in a bad relationship again. I can hope. At the same time, I remain cautious. I'm going to keep checking on her progress and do my best to make sure that she sees the counselor or doctor if anything does go wrong. I am also educating her about cymbalta a little at a time. We will cross the bridge of getting off it, when the time comes, but I will be finding out all that I can about that, between now and then.

For the bulk of the past ten years, my daughter has waivered between I'm an awesome mom and the worse mom in the world. She has directed more tears and anger than joy my way. It's nice to hear something complimentary about me. Thanks. I do like we all do, care, hold my breath, and hope for the best.

I just started back on cymbalta and my night sweats and insomnia are back. However, for me, the benefits of the med way outweigh the irritating side effects.
The only reason I went off cymbalta was the price without insurance. I have in the past have hhad really horrible experience with lyrica and recently savella. I am very happy and feel so much better on cymbalta. It helps immensly with my pain and depression. I have been on it (with the exception of a few months without insurance) since it came out. I have tried paxil, zoloft, effexor, you name it and cymbalta is the only one that has worked for me.
For those having mild side effects stick with it. Those having severe effects this is not the med for you. Hope everything works out for the better for everyone.

meds are so wacky. I started cymbalta in November, good effects right away (within a week) and no bad side effexts. But, it stopped working after 3 months.

Soooo, i asked for effexor (both snris) and I was so sweaty, nauseated I did not think I could make it. I got some otc liquid called an anti-emetic and it helped...I lost alot of weight too...but after 6 weeks , I am feeling much better

I guess like someone else said, if you CAN handle the negatives thru trial period, hang in there. Effexor is kinda my last hope.

I really hope you can stick with cymbalta...best of luck

i have been trying to try Cymbalta for months now. After all the other antidepressants cleared my system,I was starting on 30mg,got nausea and dizziness and then got used to that level after 3 months, then tried 60mg. After a week or so,I got the worse lower back pain for most of the day, then by evening, i felt better,and a lot of my other pain went away for the day. I couldn't go to work feeling like this so I cut back to 30mg for now. Will this ever get better??? Also I have like hot flashes like when I was in menipause, only 100 times worse. I sweat and sweat and sweat. then stop for a while. Thanks

Welcome to the depression forum.

I am sorry that you are getting side effects from cymbalta. I would try what Trina said and also talk to your doctor about it. It may take some time for the side effects to go away. But drink plenty of water if you are sweating a lot. You don't want to get dehydrated.
