Heartbroken Son

Hey Momma bear,
Love the name, absolutely understand the sentiment. With that name I expect you are a fierce mamma.

If he is anything like my boys (and girls) you cant tell him anything. He will have to walk this on his own. All you can do is be there to listen if/when he is ready to talk. I also send boxes of goodies and send silly cards/texts. Let him know that you love him and will be there if/when he needs you. (Gut wrenching not to just jump in the middle of things and fix it.)

It is miserable having to watch your babies (yes they will always be my babies) get hurt. Its a harsh lesson that he has to go through this break up, but there is a bright side... he didn't marry her or have a child with her.

If you jump in and start fixing, well then he cant grow up... he wont have the experience of having gone through this as a man. I have screamed and cried into my pillow knowing that my kids are walking through a bad time, or making a BAD choice... I have to hold back and trust that I gave them the skills needed to get through this life event.

NO, IT ISNT EASY!!! Over the years I have seen that they come through a stronger person, and usually better off emotionally then if I take matters in hand.

This is his 2nd painful breakup, the 1st was in high school. He's private with his emotions, so that makes it harder. From what he's shared, he hasn't been going to the end of semester parties, basically holed up in his room studying for finals, even on a weekend night (not complaining, this is not necessarily a bad thing!). She has quickly moved on with the relationship that started during there's. I've been through these breakups before, but this one feels different. I certainly understand at their age they don't need to stay together forever. There is a certain cruelty with how she is splashing her new relationship all over social media, yet continues to text my son that she misses him.

She lives out of state and was a frequent visitor during school breaks, so we became quite attached. I find myself having a broken heart as well, which I know is ridiculous.
