Has anyone ever been given a form of lyrical to bring the anxiety down and to help sleep? if so how much, and how are you the next day?

i thought it was a nerve pain med. if i am right my sis says it makes ya sleepy.

I was up to 600mg of the stuff. Makes you sleepy.

I was sensitive to the side effects. The medication was not for me.

Thank you. I am just taking 50 or 100 at night to get the anxiety down, but yes it made me very very tired when I once took one in the day. I am also taking Paxil, so hoping to eventually stop the lyrica

My Psychiatrist prescribed me Gabapentin, which is similar to lyrica, it is supposed to help some people with anxiety, I wouldn't quite know because I am too anxious to take it, because the first two times I took it I felt weird, even though my PCP told me it is very safe for me to take and I will have no side effects.

This one is called ran pregabalin, and it definitely did take the anxiety down but it makes me tired.

glad it is helping. me, i have been on a truck load of meds, seriously, if i do not get a side effect i am a bit weary of the medication. every med i have taken that has had a side effect has been beneficial in some capacity. food for thought.

Unfortunately, now that my Paxil has been increased, I have to take sleeping pills to sleep. Are there any drugs out there (ssri) that don't increase your anxiety level ? I feel Ike the Dr just gives you something and sends you off

There are ways to work on your anxiety to help combat it. I would try that before you switch meds if they are helping your depression. Do you take anything for anxiety? The SNRI's are good because they have anxiety properties in them. You might want to talk to your doc about one of them. What you are taking now I believe is an SSRI. They don't help with anxiety.

Make sure you mention to your doctor about the anxiety, maybe he will switch you to another medication. I take Xanax for anxiety but I am going off of it. I have been on it for over 20 years. After awhile they can mess up your cognitive thinking. But that don't happen for a long time.

I hope you feel better soon. I would try some breathing exercises when the anxiety pops in... If you are interested, we can help you with that.

Thank you Karen. Do you know what some snri drugs are? I am desperately waiting to see the Dr but it's the holiday season. Initially they were just family drs that put me on cipralex and made me feel I was on speed. I had been on Paxil before, although it was no joy going on it, so that's why I thought I would try it again. The family des don't really know anything. Fortunately I have one that has psychiatric experience.
What do U think? and thank you

You can look up snri medications on the internet and you will get them all, but a few are Effexor, pristiq, Cymbalta and Lexapro. I think. But if you look it up, you will know for sure. In fact, I am not real sure about Lexapro, but I think it is the same as the cipralex...

I hope that you find what works for you. The doctor would be a lot better help in knowing what to try next. Keep hanging in there, and keep posting as it does help...

Actually Lexapro is an SSRI, not an SNRI.

Effexor, Cymbalta and Pristiq are SNRI's.

I was given neurontin a few years ago to lower my anxiety and it worked somewhat but had to quit because it gave me mood swings and made me feel drunk.

I thought Lyrica was specifically for pain and didn't realize it could be used for anxiety.

Anyways I just wanted to let you know that I have tried a quite a few antidepressants and the one that caused the least anxiety at startup was paxil and I am the QUEEN of getting severe anxiety and Panic Attacks when I start up a med.

Thank you b. That is what I am on now... I guess I have to be patient. It's just when you have those side effects or have a panic attack, you wonder if you are doing the right thing. Did you have to take a sleep aid in the beginning?

I took Paxil in the evening and it never caused any issues with sleeping. If you take it in the evening, you might want to change to the AM if it is causing problems for you.

I know with most AD's they want you to take them in the AM.

I am on Effexor right now and I remember in the beginning it was quite stimulating…I was waking up in the night several times but that subsided after a few weeks and now I sleep thru the night just fine. Maybe just give it a little time.

What is the difference between an ssri and snri? Should I perhaps be on the snri because of the anxiety?

I would ask the doc about it. I do believe the SNRI's work with anxiety..

When I woke up with that panicked feeling I did the breathing exercises and it seemed to work. Thank you for all you help. S
