Depression after Prednisolone/Prednisone?

I visited a neurologist who diagnosed me with "tension headache" and prescribed me a cortisone injection in addition to 9 days of prednisolone (3 days 60mg, 3 days 40mg, 3 days 20mg) = total 10 days
The tension headache has gone, however, I still have headache on the sides of my head and behind my eyes, some pressure in my ears sometimes.

During my prednisolone course,I had severe depression, mood changes, anxiety (i couldn't sleep), sweating.(I didn't have any history with these weird side effects)

Now, it's day 7 after stopping the prednisolone and i still have depression and feel like i want to cry but not with the same severity when I used to take this horrible medicine.

How many days would this depression last? and are there any tests that would would help me make sure my adrenal/pituitary glands are OK or not?

I so much worried and helpless.

I'm 27y, male, weight is 44kg

Hello HusseinBoAli and welcome to the forum. While these are questions you should be asking your doctor, if you are concerned about your pituitary and adrenal glands, ask to have your cortisol levels checked. Most of the time, the doctors order a 24 hour urine test where you collect all of your urine for 24 hours, take it to a lab and have it tested. Another test they may order is a midnight saliva test. You may have to see an endocrinologist for these tests. Keep posting and let us know how things are going. My daughter has Cushing's Disease and I have learned much about the pituitary and adrenal gland involvement.

Yup, That about sums it up. Does exactly the same to me. Post-treatment depression seems to last about a week or so for me. The lack of sleep on steroids probably does not help. I am exhausted when I finish a course and very emotional during and after. What a emotional roller coaster ride they can be.

Many thanks for your suggestion, I visited another 2 neurologists and they suggested on me to wait for another week before doing anything because this horrible drug needs 2 to 3 weeks post-treatment to clear out from my system. Anyway, I feel I'm getting better day after the other. But slowly.

I've done an MRI for my brain yesterday and made several blood tests (TSH,ESR,CBC,Full Profile,Renal..) to make sure everything is alright.

It's actually the worst nightmare experience since I was born.

If any medical related research is done, I'm ready to write a booklet on the side effects I've passed through during the course of this bloody drug!

When I get well soon, I'll write an official complaint to the manufacturer on the side effects I've passed through and how much I was emotionally torn. I reached the edge of insanity.

I knew someone that had to use prednisone whenever his gout acted up. They affected him so much, he referred to them as 'gorilla pills'! I'm wondering if there is a natural supplement that can be used to help counteract this side effect? Personally, I use dark chocolate as it has a natural 'mood elevator' in it.

prednisolone has it's benefits, however the prescriber needs to be careful of the condition of the individual and the circumstances pertaining to it's use. was occipital neuralgia ruled out? take care.

Prednisone can stay in your system for a few weeks after your last pill. It is not uncommon to experience mental health problems when taking prednisone. Steroids, high does IV steroids as well as oral prednisone can produce symptoms such as paranoia, confusion, memory problems, "roid" rage, insomnia or needing more sleep as well as many other issues.

Many of the side effects steroids cause will resolve over time. Let your prescribing Physician know how you reacted on prednisone.

I am not fond of Prednisone but they can be helpful for many medical problems.
