Hello i am very new to the whole forum thing, so please bear with me.
I suffer with depression , anxiety mood swings and have been on lustral for 3 years they have changed my life in a good way. At certain times of the day they seem to wear off i have adjusted the dose but to no avail. I saw a shrink and he told me i am bi-polar and gave me quetiapine they just made me sleep all day and feel low. I tried them for a few weeks. The other day the Doc gave me Lamotrigine i had only taken them for 3 days then was hit with the worse bouts of depression i have ever had. Could not get out of bed, when i did i hated everyone, then started feeling guilty about hating them. Kept having outbursts of crying felt like i was a failure and that everyone would be better of without me. I planned my suicide. I stopped taking these meds 3 days ago i still feel very very sad low and upset. Has anyone else had this experience with these med. If so how long did the episode last. I hope it ends soon because i just cant cope with this any more.

I have never tried this. You might find somebody who did on the bi-polar forum. It is worth a try.

There are other medications for bi-polar. Maybe the doc will try them on you. I hope that you feel better soon. I am sorry you feel so badly. Hang in there and don't give up hope.

Welcome to the forum. Keep posting, it does help. We do have a couple bi-polar people here, hopefully they will chime in.

PS sometimes these effects go away after a couple of weeks on a new med. But I don't blame you for stopping when you are feeling that bad.

Hey Terry,

After translating the Queen's English to Obama's I figured out that you were taking Zoloft and Lamictal - neither of which I have experience with. Since I can't help with any personal experience, I did a little math.

Assuming 3 hours for Lamotrigine to get absorbed, and a half life of 29 hours, and a dosing schedule repeating every 24 hours, I figure the drug should be mostly out of your system in about 4.3 days. In other words, you're almost out of the rabbit hole!

When you make it back to your GP or shrink, whoever you see first, make sure you tell them about the suicide planning. It's definitely something they need to know to come up with the right drug cocktail for you.

Hang in there Terry, the Lamotrigine is almost gone!

hi. lamictal is slow to start. it is relatively new as a bi-polar medicine. it helps with mania and mood. it is very much a foundation med and works well with other meds. 25mg is the start dose. it likes to be incremented, thus you can get bloods for levels done. give it a few more weeks and look to increase. works well in the background. take care.

I have taken both Zoloft and Lamictal but have not had that type of reaction. I have had medications which made me feel worse at first. I am guilty of stopping medications without talking to the Dr. first which is not wise. I think when things like this happen, the wisest thing to do would be to put in a call to the doctor to explain your reaction.

When you start having suicidal thoughts, you definitely want to let the doctor know what is happening. They might have something different they would like you to take along with it or instead of it. Communication is important.

I sure hope you are feeling better quickly.

I'm not Bi-polar, but have been taking 150 mg of Lamictal in combination with Cymbalta for 3 years. It's a simple combination compared to the many others I've taken. The Lamictal and Cymbalta combo works very well for me.

Thank you and I will. I just discovered this website. I believe I have somethings to contribute, and some reason I get a bit of therapeutic benefit reading others experiences.

I found this searching for help with Neuropathy.
