Joyce:
I don't know what else to call it but a phone box.
It came from Radio Shack and plugs into the phone. It has a small screen which has room for the name of the person calling on top line, and their phone number of the lower line.
Which is a huge advancement for me.
I think the message is part of the phone itself, and you have to push some buttons to set it up, but I didn't know how to do that, but it didn't bother me because I didn't know people were trying to call.
The phone box is not but about 5 inches wide by 5 inches deep, and a few inches high. It also has a red light that blinks when someone calls, and doesn't stop until you pick it up.
Then the phone itself is what has the message machine, and the phone will say, "You have one message" and "press 1 for your messages."
So I press 1 and it says something about somebody is trying to call you for some reason, and so you can call them back. It's like magic.
Imagine, never miss a phone call again. How do they do that?
But first you have to get somebody who set it up for you. That's the hard part.
Just knowing you don't have to listen to anymore political ads again makes me happy. Just look at the screen, and when it says it's a political ad, you just don't answer it.
Then you have to learn how to work it, like, you see a number on the screen but they didn't leave a name. So I would be calling 5 o 6 numbers that would be on the screen, but had no name, until one time I got a real jerk, and I learned pretty fast, you don't call a number back that has n name. Why didn't they leave a name.
So you have to learn how to work it. So now I just erase the numbers that don't have a name if they don't leave a message.
It's called the 21st Century, but I don't we're ready for it or not. Do we have to drag you kicking, screaming into the latest gadgetry.
Somebody said the other day said I need a wide-screen TV, that it's more clear, that they're down to $300 now, that I just have that have that. No, I don't, I have my 20-inch TV and it still works. I read the small scoreboard on it, but I can still see the game.
The only person worse than me, and you, is this lady who has a typewriter, which the only thing wrong with it is that the letter "L" doesn't work, but other than that it's in good shape, so why does she need a computer?
Oh, and did you hear, they've replaced 8mm home movies with video cams. That's right, why do they need video cams?
Did you ever get a CD player to show your 8mm movies? I've got one that somebody got for me. Which is how your play your home movies CD on your TV, with a CD player that hooks to the back of your TV.
Are you able to watch your movies? Who needs TV when you've got your home movies?
