Hello Peter and Elisha,
Thank you very much for responding to my post. The information that you both left, especially Peter, is exactly what I found to be true! What happened is that my Lexapro prescription ran out and I called my doctor's office for a refill. I found it more than curious that when I went to the pharmacy to pick it up, there was the name Celexa in bold letters. (generic brand) My pharmacist thought it curious too. He told me that they absolutely are different. One thing I know about Lexapro is that it keys in on only one part of the brain, contrasting Celexa, which works with both sides. Yes, the main ingredient in both meds are the same, but you said it perfectly.......not as pure. Why would I want to take something different, when I am feeling good on Lexapro. I ended-up calling my doctor's office yesterday and the nurse gave me the run-around. Insisting that Celexa and Lexapro are the same. No way! She finally listened to me, but I am still unsure as to why she would state that my insurance company suggested the generic version because it is cost effective. Wow, that would be a real turnaround, imagine an insurance company actually caring that the consumer save money? Quite the concept! Well, thank you Peter and Elisha for your compassionate and detailed responses. I am sticking to my Lexapro and am glad that I didn't waiver.
Happy 2006.
