Hi folks.
Rather agitated tonight. Waiting to hear what length extension the EU decides to give us. This is the final culmination of "Taking Back Control": an English PM begging the Germans and the French to give us more time. If you'd seen the boastful newspaper headlines of 2 years ago, you would realise there aren't enough facepalms in the world to do justice to this evening.
But do the Brexiters admit they got it wrong? Haha. No. They double, triple, quadruple down on their stupidity and blame everyone except themselves. We've reached the stage in the betrayal narrative where even the
Queen is being blamed - yes, the same people who claimed to want to gain back our sovereignty now want to remove our sovereign. Irony has given up on the UK and has found a new country to go and live in.
It would be highly amusing if it wasn't all such an obscene waste of time and money - not only have untold billions been spent preparing for a no deal that we can now see the PM was bluffing about
, untold trillions have fled the country since the referendum. This will have consequences for years, decades. Businesses and banks which have fled won't come back. And guess who will feel the brunt? The poor, who have already felt the brunt of a decade's vicious (and needless) austerity cuts - and which made many of them vote for Brexit who probably otherwise wouldn't have done. (They saw it as a way of telling the elite to get stuffed. Sadly they did not realise Brexit was a coup of the economically far right ultra-elites.)
Anyway, I'll shut up about
Brexit now >.>
I had my flex sig. It went fine: no pain whatsoever, even with the balloon dilation. However, I've got Crohn's ulcers in the rectum and anastomosis (surgical join), which would explain why I'm still having bad urgency. I do sometimes think having the ileostomy reversed has caused more problems than it's worth. But I wouldn't go back to the stoma with the way things are politically at the moment: still far too much risk of no deal, if not this Friday, then in a few months' time.
The uveitis flared up again today. I found a uveitis forum with a thread dedicated to specialists in the UK. It has given me a little more hope, especially as I found out I *may* have a cause of uveitis which can be treated with antiviral meds. If so, that would be amazing. But even if not, I know there are other treatments besides steroid drops and I want to discuss them with someone who actually has heard of them. I'm willing to pay for the initial consultation at least - this is one time I don't want to wait several months.
I also got my Irish grandfathers' birth certificate and a letter from my mum's cousin :D I'd given up hearing from her, so I was actually really pleased by that. After all, she doesn't know me or even my mum. But she does know my aunts, who go over to Ireland occasionally. She asked me for photos, so I bought some photographic paper with a view to printing a few out. Sadly, I have surprisingly few of my immediate family - I've got more of the ducks than I do my own family, which may say something about
me and my family. (I do have a few nice ones of my mum, but I need a couple of my brothers and my dad!)
Anyhow I managed to print my first photo, but it came out too dark even though on my monitor it looks nice and bright. Googled, and it seems to be a common problem which you fix by calibrating your monitor colour. So I'll try that.
Going back to the Irish passport, I'm still a long way from getting that but the birth certificate takes me one step closer. I need to register as an Irish citizen first before I can get the passport - that is what takes the time. You also need a ton of documentation. I've got some of it, but others I still need to get - I will start applying for the rest this weekend. (Yes, I left it too late. But I'm not putting it off any longer, I'm going to get this done as quickly as I can.)
And in one last bit of news, my kitchen cupboard door came off this evening D: I
opened it and the top hinge pulled away from the plasterboard - what a pile of junk. Hopefully my housing association will fix it, otherwise I am not sure what I will do..
@Trina - Hmm, tech support is the one thing I don't think I could do. I hate speaking on the phone and the thought of speaking to people on the phone all day long... In fact I've got a people phobia in general. Which isn't conductive towards working, to put it mildly. That said I'm willing to try and get over it if there are any jobs actually available for somebody my age and with my history.
If I get an Irish passport it will become pretty valuable after Brexit, since I will be able to keep the Freedom of Movement that the British are on the verge of losing. I won't need visas to live anywhere in Europe, or health insurance either - all that is covered by FoM.
As for painting, I still have all the supplies out - but no more painting done. However, I am keeping the faith that I will start very soon >_>.
Thank you everyone. I am sorry I burbled on for so long. Here's a picture of ducklings to hopefully make it your worthwhile getting this far :p
