Hello To All,

 

I'm new to this site, but certainly not new to depression, although, I wish none of us were. I was dx'd when I was 20 and have been on amiltriptyline (elavil) for over 30 years. Recently my psychiatrist added lexapro 10mg, because of some life changes such as, my dad passing away, three surgeries, etc...

 

I am anxious to get to know all of you and I hope I can add something to the group. If nothing else, senority. lol I can still laugh sometimes. Night time is always better for me. It's not because I can't sleep. 200mg of emiltriptyline takes care of that. I simply feel better at night. Maybe because nothing is expected of my at night. Everyone is in bed and the house is quiet. I have pushed it a little far tonight/tomorrow, since it's almost 5:00 a.m.

 

I will be honest. I have a fourth surgery coming up Monday and I'm very anxious about that. Now would be a good time to tell you I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, also.

 

I don't know my way around the site and if anyone sees something I am doing wrong, please tell me. I won't bore you going on and on, but is you have any questions feel free to ask.

sorry to hear about your father, and your deppresion

i hope you find your way in navigating this site, would be helpfull if you know what your looking for , but i'm sure elsisa can help you out and give you some links to read.

Hi Connie,  I wanted to welcome you to Healing Well forum.  We are happy to have you.

I am sorry to hear of your father passing away, I am sure that is very difficult to deal with.  I am blessed in that I still have both of my parents.  Having 3 surgeries in a short amount of time and the loss of a loved one can bring on depression or what is commonly known as situational depression.  I can relate to the medical illness part as I have had to have several surgeries for a pacemaker, and two revisions to the leads just since this past September.  Also, the addition of another medical diagnosis.  So it is common for people who are going through medical situations to suffer depression.

Healing Well also has a Anxiety/Panic forum which I too find helpful you can get there by going to the top of your screen and under the blue bar where it says "Log Off" and "Control Panel" there is a link "Diseases & Conditions" click on that and it will show you a list of all the different forums that healing well has to offer.  If you click on "Depression" then it will show you all the posts that have been made in this forum.  An open envelope means that you have already viewed it and a closed on means that someone has posted a new reply and you haven't seen it yet.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have had chemical depression since I was 20 and believe me, that was a long time ago. lol The situational depression has crept into my life several times. In My fourth surgery is Monday and I'm so happy I found a group before I had to go.

Yes, my dad's death was hard on all of us. My parents were married 60 years. What a record breaker, huh?? I had some of the best times of my life with my dad and brother.

Well, enough about me. I'm going to read up on a few of the members so I know them a tiny bit when I see therm.

Hi Connie, I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. I lost my Dad 2 years ago and I know how hard it can be. I also suffer from depression and anxiety, amongst alot of other things,lol. I wish you well with your surgery, hope everything goes well for you. Hope to see you on chat sometime.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'm starting to learn my way around the site a little more. My depression/anxiety is having a ball with me tonight. My surery date is Monday and my blood runs cold when I think about it.

 

I hope you're doing well. I wish I knew everyone already so I would have something to say to them. I guess that comes with time. I think the way a person is welcomed into the group says a lot, and I have had some nice responses.

Do you mind if I ask what kind of surgery your having? Its sunday now, so I will definatly pray for you as you approach your surgery date. I have several med. issues. I've only had 2 minor surgerys, but they still caused my stomach to turn at the thought of what they'd be doing to my body. I had both jaws cut and was wired shut for a long time. No fun. anyway, sorry for rambling about myself. I do really hope God will bring an extra smile to your face, and extra reason to laugh, and a calm spirit to your soul. Good luck and keep us updated.

I''m so glad I got your reply. I'm packing now to leave for the hospital in Indy. It's about a three hour drive. I'm so very sad to hear all the things you have been through. Hopefully, nothing else will require you to have more surgeries.

 

I complained about my upper left arm hurting for four years, and my Dr. told me it was arthritis in my shoulder. Finally, the pain got so intense last June that I went to the ER in the middle of the night. They x-rayed my arm and found a 5 inch tumor inside the bone. (they said it in cmm's but they had to convert it for me to understand. lol) They showed me the x-rays and even I could see it. It was cancer.

 

They set me up to see a local orthopedic surgeon the next day. He wasn't comfortable dealing with it so they sent me to Indiana University Hospital to see Dr.Wurtz. He's a professor and a orthopedic surgeon oncologist. The did a biopsy in June, and that was much more than I thought it would be. I thought they would just take a little shaving of the bone, but no such luck. He cut a section of bone and tumor out.

 

I went back on July 18th for surgery to remove the whole bone in my left

arm (humorus bone) That was an extremely painful surgery. From there I had to go to rehab for three weeks.

 

In August, I had more surgery because there was a section that wasn't healing. Finally, I got to come home. I have no use of my upper arm, but I can use my forearm and hand. Three of the fingers are numb, but they function. I am able to lift my arm and hand with my good hand and put it where I want it, which is usually the keyboard. lol I thought I was home safe at last.

 

I went for my checkup a few weeks ago and the titanium rod he put in my arm had gotten pushed forward when I fell on Easter. More surgery!! I am more afraid of the surgery I have to have in the morning than I was of all the other ones put together and I don't know why. If it wasn't painful, I doubt I would have it done. There is only a thin layer of skin covering the rod at the top and if I fall again it would pop through. I finally consented to surgery. I really hope this is my last one for a very long time. I do have a knee that's been causing me problems but I'm not ready to even deal with that yet. lol

 

You were very nice for asking what kind of surgery I was having and then I send you this long boring mail explaining it. I hope everyone hasn't forgotten me when I get back. I haven't been with the group very long.

 

I will be typing with one hand but on the board it really doesn't matter about speed. I won't keep you any longer. Thanks again for caring and I hope nothing further happens to you.
