Since I have mutiple personalities and one of my peeps (alters) suffer ADHD and another depression my pysc in NY put me on Adderrall XR. As I entioned in the Anxiety section it turned my life around. Then I learned I have hypertension and had to go off of it. My ADHD symptoms returned and my depression got so bad I was way, way down there in that dark hole with no seemingly way out.
I now have a new psyc since I have moved to Utah and over the past few months I have had some severe situational stress issues which have caused my depression to sink low again. One of my main problems is lack of energy. I spent 7 months in bed, sleeping 21 hours a day. Now my body is totally atrophied. I am in physical therapy for that.
Now for my point. My psyc asked if I had ever been on Adderall XR or Ritalin. I told him that I took Adderall XR for over two years and had NO depression at all (I even had four family members in Iraq at the same time-husband, son, nephew and son-in-law) and I still made it through without depression. Call that a miracle!
He suggested that I go back on the Adderall XR because it not only gives you energy but also works as an anti-depressant, which I didn't know. I told him that I cannot take it because of the high blood pressure. He said that he was more concerned about my severly high anxiety causing my blood pressure to rise much more that the rise caused by the Adderall XR. He also said that he just attended a seminar and the speaker said that people who are on medications for hypertension do fine on Adderall XR or Ritalin.
So I am back on it. To counteract some of the mild anxiety that it causes I take it with a 0.5 mg dosage of Xanax.
My low energy level, due to my depression, and my daytime sleepiness are gone. We have lived here in Utah for 10 months and I was able to walk to our mailbox, about 500 feet away for the first time. All naps are gone.
Adderall XR is one of my "wonder drugs." My daughter even told her husband the other day that she feels like she has her old mom back again.
Just wanted to share this encouraging story and am curious as to whether any of you here take this medication?
Taking baby steps towards recovery,
Sylvia
