Hi Bethers, It is always best to follow your doctor’s advice...now having said that I have a few questions. Did doctor instruct you to wean off of Xanax? If so what MG and how often were you taking it? The only reason that you really should have to wean off of it is if you have a dependence to it and considering that you have only been taking it for 7 weeks I would seriously doubt that is the case. OR if your taking it at higher dosages like 1 or 2 mg 3 or 4 times a day everyday then perhaps weaning would be a good idea so as not to through your body into an chemical withdrawal.
I have not heard of anyone replacing Xanax with Buspar...and I worked in the mental health field for years. These are two different drugs from two different classes. However, you can take Zoloft and Buspar together safely...and most physicians dont like patients on long term use of Xanax as it is a Benzo and addictive. Buspar does have some uses for anxiety but it is a long term maintance drug and much different that Xanax.
I hope I have been of some help for you....Take care
