I need some information on anti-depressants please.

My friend has been confiding in me recently that hes always really depressed and that hes seriously thinking about suicide and I've tried talking him out of it as much as possible but he still seems depressed.

I really think he needs anti-depressants and I told him about it and he said he'll give it a try but he doesnt want to tell his mom because she hasnt been the same since his dad passed away last year and he doesnt want to make her feel worse.  He wants me to go with him to get some anti-depressants but Im not sure if we need a parent/guardian signature or a parent/guardian with us.

Can anyone help me?

Hi HNH, I agree with Victoria here.  One, assuming that your friend is in the US normally the legal age is between 17 to 18 depending on which state you reside in.  If he is younger than that then he will need to have a parent's consent to visit a physician.

Second, I am not clear on your relationship with him...but if he is confiding in you regarding his feelings here and talking of suicide then it is very important that you encourage him to either talk to his mother or a school counselor or someone of this nature.  When someone talks of suicide this is very serious and most especially if they speak of having a plan of doing it...He needs help ASAP.
