remeron and side effects?

just started remeron, concerned (as always) about side effects. any personal experiences to share? esp. regarding weight gain, cholesterol levels and blood sugar...pre -diabetic here, working hard on weight loss, blood sugar and exercise and don't need any further (negative) help in this area. thanks in advance for any help

Many ssri's have the same side effects. Some people experience them whereas others don't. If you do get any side effects, they usually dissappear within a few weeks. I have heard that remeron can make you feel a little drowsy in the first couple of weeks which is why its recommended to take at night, but again, this doesn't happen to everyone.

I have been on Remeron for a couple of years and like it. I take it about 20 minutes before I go to bed. If you exercise and eat right you should not have a weight problem.

Remeron, if I' remember rightly is the same as Mirtazapine.

I found the stuff marvelous in the first year. It made me drop to sleep within 15 minutes, and I woke up really rested.

It did make me incredibly hungry. Although this was incredibly good for me, it probably won't be good for you.

As bluemeanies said, as long as you eat right, you shouldn't have a problem.

I'd check your bloodsugars a bit more regular though, make sure you catch any changes it's making early.

thanks for the replies. i am having some fluctuations in my weight and blood pressure already.

but I have an appt with my family doctor on Monday and we are going to do a med review including the psych meds, as i had some blood and urine tests on Thursday, so we can look at any fluctuations etc in the test results.

 it is quite complicated for me to have depression as I also take meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, incontinence, reflux, and kidney function and now 4 psych meds...drives me nuts sometimes, literally LOL. and being pre-diabetic just adds to the mess.

Hi

my hubby is on remeron, also

he was pre diabetic; when he started taking it,   with in 6 months his blood sugars where thru teh roof, he now is diabetic on 4 insulin needle a day, however........ Remeron    is the best drug for him,

hsi mood is 100 % stable, he can hnadle working, life at home

but there is another side effect,      ZERO    "drive".... but i'd rather have apeaceful man, than onw who nede to be institutionalized.
