trying antidepressant

Hi all,

Ok been a couple of weeks since I was here finally got my insurance to cover cymbalta still pricey but got it down to a sorta reasonable price it wont come until next week (Im already on elavil 10mg) Im going by docs orders to take 20mg cymbalta in am and elavil at night Im not getting much from elavil except EXTREME tiredness!  Im hoping and praying I dont get too many side effects from cymbalta I know Iv asked before but how is it switching from 1 med to another? The plan is to get me off slowly of the elavil .

in menopause on meds for that total hysterectomy 11 yrs ago just hope cymbalta does not make me have hot flashes!!

Hi Jonny,

I read your post with interest.  I have a little experience concerning menopause.  I went through it about 6 years ago.  Awful hot flashes, night sweats, crabby as could be and weepy.  Well my symptoms did go away.  Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through that whole episode.  I was put on a cancer drug that puts you back into the hot flashes.  I was sleeping with two fans and a room air conditioner.  I found out from my oncologist that most of the anti depressants help couteract hot flashes.  I take remeron and there has been a big diffierence since I started the cancer drug.  The anti depressant really does help with hot flashes so I don't think you will have a problem.  Anyway, tht is my tale and hope this info helps you.

Hi thanks for replying you made me feel a whole lot better about taking any antidepressant.  Im so sorry you had to go thru cancer that must be so hard I will pray for you if I may.  Anyways I will be starting as I said the cymbalta next week (have to wait for mail order) so hopefully it will work. tx Jonny

Thankss for your kindness and prayers.  I am doing fine now - just have to see Drs. every 3 months to stay on top of it.  Let me know how you are doing with the cymbalta.  I hope it works for you. Take care.

Hi Jonny
This is Kitt. I have switched from many of the AD meds without difficulty with the switch. One I had to quit immediately as I had broken out in a rash all over my body. My Dr. wanted to taper it while we started another but I took a smaller dose and the rash got worse so I said no more.
I am on the Cymbalta 120mg divided into 2 doses per day. Do you know what your target for the Cymbalta is?
Your going from a very old drug to a very new one.
I hope the new med helps you and bless you. Keep posting.
I should add I tolerate large dose of meds to receive desired effect. As far as S.E. I do not have any.
