I posted on here a few months ago, when I was really depressed. Looking back, I realize that the school I was attending was not a good fit and that leaving really was the best choice I could have made. I was on anti-depressants for a couple months but was going to be out of the country for an extended period of time, so I stopped the meds and stopped therapy. I traveled, and came back feeling fine. The summer is coming to a close, and I am headed back to (a different) university. I have been having really weird symptoms, and am wondering, though they pale in comparison to the other things written on here, if anyone can help me. This is embarassing, but as of late I have started having hallucinations. No, that's the wrong word. I've been - well, it's like this. I've been obsessing about unfeasible relationships. At first I thought I was boy crazy (having attended a women's college), but when I realized it was getting so bad I couldn't talk to my friends about it, I knew it was weird. To be totally honest, I have been having inexplicable feelings for a celebrity. I'm not a whacko stalker though ! What is wrong with me ? It ends up making me really sad because then I think about in reality I really don't know any guys and I do want a relationship. Then I think about how I'm crazy and obsessing over people I don't know and think that I'm too unstable. Part of me thinks that I don't love myself enough to let someone else love me. I forget what my point was, and this is really rambly, but ... HELP ! I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm spinning back into depression right when I thought I was getting out of it? Does that make sense? I don't know.

Blue,

If you feel as if you're spinning back into depression, why don't you go back and see your doctor or your therapist and see if you might possibly need to go back on your antidepressant again.

I think a lot of young girls  fantasize about actors and rock stars and that's not necessarily abnormal. Hey, I keep hoping George Clooney will show up at my door. But you do need to focus on what's real also.

I just think it would be a good idea to see someone about your depression since school is starting back up and you don't want it to affect your studies.

I guess that's what scares me the most. I don't want drugs to interfere, either. I never found one that worked for me and there's no time left to experiment because school is starting soon. I can't afford to suffer side effects and I don't know what to do. Plus I feel guilty using money that's not mine (i.e. my parents') to go see a shrink... is that stupid? Is it better just to go and see what happens?

if you were PHYSICALLY ill, would you feel guilty about using your parents money, as you put it, to see a doctor? Just because it is a mental issue doesn't mean it is less valid than a physical ailment.

If you are starting a new school you may find that if you don't get help now when you feel your symptoms returning, you will be overwhelmed after a bit of time. if you wait and and see what happens, your depression, if it is returning, could get worse and you won't be able to deal at all. As I said above, if it were a physical problem, say a small infection, would you wait until you entire arm was infected before you got help?


As far as the celebrity thing, when I was younger (in my teens) I had my own obsession with a certain celebrity...I think it was because I was so lonely and also felt that this fantasy person would accept me as I am. Without judgment.

Would you share with us what antidepressant you were on last year. It sounds like it helped you and got you through the school year. I agree that seeing your therapist is a good idea. Don't let this get out of hand when you may be able to stop the spiral now.
AS for your obsession, even older grandmothers dream of movies stars, my favorite being Johnny Depp.

Well Blue, it looks like we're all pretty much giving you the same advice.  I hope you take it and see your doctor and see if he/she thinks you need to go back on medication.  You know your parents want you to be well and healthy.  And think about it, if you spiral down, you could end up wasting the entire semester or possibly the entire year at school if you don't get the help you need.

See, I told you a lot of us daydream about movie stars.  Now Kitt can have Johnny Depp, but George Clooney is mine.  He just doesn't know it yet.  I hope he likes grandmothers.  :-)

so thanks for all the advice. i know you're all right - but i have a lot on my plate, so what if the meds don't work? i tried zoloft (my mom was on it, so they thought that would be a good match) and effexor and got sick on both of them. i'm scared to try a third time -

Some times it take several attempts to get a person on the right antidepressant.  I know it did for me.  You say you have a lot on your plate right now, I'm afraid you might end up with a lot more on your plate  and possibly not able to handle any of it if you don't slow down and take the time to take care of your mental health.  Please give it some thought.

It took my doctor about 5 tries to get my meds right. He finally decided that just one med was not going to do it since I was a depressant and had major panic and anxiety attacks.
Maybe that is what would work for you...
Carla is right,it does sometimes take several attempts to find the right med,after all meds can affect different people in different ways...don't give up yet!
