Lexapro

Sorry my posts have been really disjointed; I'm starting Lexapro and am just wondering what people's experiences have been. How long does it take to take effect? I'm on a really teeny dosage right now so I don't get sick, but hope to up that soon ! Hopefully this will be the pill that works? Would love to know what other people on it have thought/think.

Hey there Blue... I have been on Lexapro since June. I started on 5 mg, after a week, went to 10 mg, after about I dunno, 3 or 4 weeks, went to 20 mg, where I stay now, and have been comfortable since like August. I take it for GAD. I noticed improvements starting after a bit over a week, but for the next like 4 weeks or so, things just got better. I find it to be a wonder drug for me, and I am happy I have it in my life. I think if you sit back, be patient, and let the drug work, you will be truly happy with it. It doesn't work for everyone, like any drug, but I have had great experiences with it, and I have heard of so many others having such great results. I hope it works out for you!  Hi to everyone! I am "new" to this forum. I am fighting with depression for my whole life now. I am 49 yr old. Only after the birth of my son 16 yr ago did I find someone that prescribed antidepressants. I would sit and look at him and cry and couldn't get up the energy to care for him. I knew I should have been happy but felt like someone had died. I was put on zoloft and will never forget how I felt after 3 weeks. I didn't feel "happy" just able to function and carry on the tasks of daily living without the dark cloud following me. Well, the zoloft lasted about 5 yrs and have tried almost everything out there but I reach what they call a "seratonin poop-out". No kidding, my therapist told me this! I no longer see her b/c of insurance changes...but I am ready to pay $$ just to talk to someone who knows what I am going through now. The latest AD I have been on for 3 yr being lexapro (20 mg) is no longer working. It is so hard to have hope and feel that there can be another AD that can work AGAIN. I told my husband today that I don't realize how well it is working until it stops working. It certainly isn't something that people understand that don't have it.That is why I joined this site. Soooo I am open to any info on say "CYMbalta" it is about the only one that I haven't tried.

Hey guys...

Right now I'm on a teeny bit of Lexapro because my doctor wants to make sure that it doesn't make me sick (I projectile barfed when I was on Zoloft even though it's what my mom takes). I am taking 5 mg until I see her again on the 22nd. I'm still using trial packs, so we'll see how this goes. Thanks for the support, it's really nice to have a place like this to vent my feelings and it's also nice to know that I'm not the only one out there with these issues. You have all really helped me understand that it's not something I did but rather a brain misfire of sorts :O)

p.s. Tammy - I am kind of an "ALT" code dork... I got ♥ by typing "ALT+3"... I don't know if it's computer specific... I just got bored and realized it works on my computer... :O) yay college !

It does take most antidepressants 4-6 weeks to take full effect. You are going to have to give your body some time to adjust. If after that time you are not seeing any difference then I would contact your doctor right away.
