Cymbalta and pain medication anyone?

Hi, I cruz other forums more related to my particular challenges: Ulcerative Colitis, IBS, Chronic Pain, but, I have a doctor's appt tomarrow and was going to ask him for Cymbalta b/c I've heard from several people that it's good for chronic pain, which I suffer from almost daily. Buuut, tonight I was doing some on-line research and on drugs.com, it warns about taking Cymbalta with pain medications, which I take consistantly--funny thing is, the warning does not specify what the warning is! I also found on Reuters.com an article about how the manufacurer, overstated or misrepresented it's use in pain effectiveness. What to do, what to do? FYI: I do not suffer from clinical depression, although I do have some depressed mood related to my major medical conditions, so maybe it could help, but, on the other hand, if it doesn't help with pain management, I'd rather not b/c I'm on eight other meds as it is. My hope is to find someone here who takes Cymbalta and pain meds on a regular basis and if you have and problems with it, or anything else for that matter. Thanks for letting me cruz your forum.

Just in case anybody comes across this in the future: I went to my MD yesterday, who specializes in chronic pain/chronic illness and he stated that in his personal experience, he has seen no difference between prozac and cymbalta as far as pain relief goes. As far as the interactions, we didn't get that far b/c I decided not to take it if it does not benefit me.

Hi Lucy,  I have been taking Cymbalta and Oxycontin for several years and have no trouble with combining the two.  I can't say the Cymbalta has worked any miracles for my depression, but I think it has helped some.  It's hard to know what is working for me because I am in such a constantly stressful situation, trying to help my son recover from alcoholism....and financial problems.....and I don't sleep well because of RLS, PLMD and sleep apnea.  I don't know if you should take Cymbalta just to help with your pain because I cannot say that it has helped mine any.  You are quite right to be careful about adding more medications to your list if you don't really need to.  Good luck to you, Hon......I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Hey there,

I have to weigh in on this one..........I was taking Vicodin for pain and it reacted with my AD's something awful.  My blood levels on my AD's were off the charts.  I was  seriously ill combining the 2.  I am now on cymbalta for depression not pain and I do not take any narcotic.  I live with the pain but I can as mine is controlled with OTC NSAIDS.

My experience was very bad mixing the 2 meds so please be careful.
