Hello there,

I have a friend who is diabetes. I just found out that he has no insurance and visit a physician on his own expenses every couple of years. Yesterday, he had his eye all so red but said he was with the docotor just few weeks ago. The doctor said he was OK. And asked him to come and see him in another 2 YEARS. I was so surprised. I think he should have a regular insurance, I am trying to investigat this issue for him here since he is not so familiar with the internet.

Is there is any organization that helps to pay for diabetes check ups and treatment. And just out of curiousity, how much it would average for him to his own insurance, the man is above fifty,not retired and lives in IL. He did not live a whole portion of his life in the USA and he won't get a Medicare on the long run.

Please, if anyone know some useful information, do share it with me.

Shatah, welcome to this site.  You must be a good friend to do this reasearch for him.

I have no information for you on how to find help for your friend.  I do not live in the United States (I assume you do), so I don't know what programs are available.  I hope someone else can help.

Have your friend call his local heath department. Look in the phone book under county health department. He should ask them about doctors who take low income patients. If that does not work call Catholic Social Services of your area. (The local Catholic church should have the number for you.) You do not have to be Catholic. You just must be a person who needs help. They will send you to the agency that will help your friend. I hope this helps. Your friend should get his eye looked at. It could be allergies or it could be an infection. Here's some more info. for your friend.The Bureau of Primary Health Care offers healthcare regardless of insurance status OR ability to pay. To find local health centers,call 1(800)400-2742 & ask for a directory OR visit the website @ www.bphc.hrsa.gov; also,have you checked to see if he qualifies for Medicaid/contact Dept.of Human Services for that/in government pages of phone book; should he need hospital care,there's a program administered by Dept.of Health&Human Services-For more info. call 1(800)638-0742 OR go to [email protected]/osp/dfcr
That's a start anyway. For additional info, go to www.about.com. Do search for " underinsured or uninsured assistance for diabetics" or something similar. There's lots of info there. Good Luck,ok?

Shatah,if your friend lives in the U. S. there are alot of things out there, especially for dibetes. What ever County he lives in take him to the Family Independent Agentcy(F.I.A.) I know ow my spelling is off.I live in MI. and it took one and a half years to get Medicaid .I have Epilepsy and can not work.Michigan Rehab. and Career dDevelopment paid for my seisure meds until I goy medicaid.Those forms have to filled out just right. I know medicaid is through the state, Every state is different. I am under the impression that all states take Diabetes serious. Catholic Social Services can really help or put your friend in touch with those who can . Good Luck and God Bless you and your friend.

nono How do you just change your diet when the DR. tells your husband his Diabetes is now where he feels he should be on insulin. My husband told the doctor that he was not really following his diet, he thinks if he takes the diabetes medication he can eat what he wants. The DR increased his diabetes meds. and is giving 4-6 weeks to get it under controll. My husband really likes his snacks. Can anyone reccomend evening snacks that are ok for a diabetics? He thinks if he doesn't eat sugar foods then that is good. Eating 3 oranges or apples in a roll is ok.He just does not get it. We have seen a nutriionist. That did not help him. I know exercising is good for diabetics, that is really going to increase for us both. I just need some help on snacks. Actually any help or hints would really be appreciated.Recipes that will seem like a meal would help.A weeks menu including snacks would be fantastic.I really need some help here.ThankYou

 to be interesting but want another site like it that describes what medical doctors
 like bernsteins diet do to help diabetics lose weight rapidly but safely.  is there any site you recommend?
