Welcome to HealingWell, Mia. Don't worry about
the high sugars while the prednisone is doing its work. Just concentrate on getting better. There are some members here who must take pred and when they do they change to a very low carb food plan with no grains and few fruits, eating mostly lean meats and veggies... LOTS of veggies. And what better time to need to eat lots of veggies than when all the harvests are coming in
?
I was on Lantus insulin as well as avandia and had to stop both meds because I couldn't afford them. (I don't have health insurance.) I switched to the "NWBC" or "nothing white but cauliflower" food plan the day I dropped my meds. I"ve been running in the high 90's to the low 110's in the morning ever since with just metformin for my diabetes med. Several others here are on the low grain food plan and doing quite well.
Anyway, concentrate on getting better before you tackle the high numbers. Here is one of our more recent posts about
prednisone and diabetes that I could find.
