It was very odd shopping for a Glucometer, strips, lancets, etc, and thinking to myself, if I had to instruct another patient what to do, how would I teach them, and where would tell them to go to get the best deal, especially if they were doing this "not on the advice of their physician"??
Since many physicians would just as well be "Big Daddy" and have the lab work done in their office, have the patient be dependent on them for results, and when their blood sugar becomes "out of control", be highly re-imbursible when they are sick and need RX's and treatment?
I started to feel a little angry. The pharmacist had no idea what he was selling to me, had no idea what was in the kits, and what the best ones were as far as pricing with strips. I had to figure this out myself. I was not going to submit this to my insurance. Heaven Forbid!!(this is a secret for now!LOL!)
I purchased a Bayer Contour with the "normal" solution inside, since so many of the kits do not have them, I didn't want to get stuck having to call someone to order some over the phone to activate my meter!Anyway..we've come a long way since I worked in hospitals even when my ex tested, his was an antiquated model compared to this one!
I tested tonight 4 hrs PP, after light high carb meal, not one of my worst, I can tell you, and I didn't really feel too bad, went out for a walk first, with the dog, about
3/4 mile. result:129.
yes, I was upset. I was drinking and bathrooming a bit today..not as much as last night, but a bit.
I won't go into what I ate tonight, but lets just say, I don't think I'll be buying those in pints any more, even though they are fat free, they are not sugar or lactose free!
