Good morning, mip. Well, let me tell you about
accuracy! I have 4 Bayer Contour meters and rarely do I get the same readings. The older one (4 years old) takes 15 seconds and most of the time it registers anywhere from 10 to 20 points higher than the others. The 3 newer ones are normally within 10 points of each other, so I average all of them together. Not very scientific! The industry says that meters can be up to 20% within the accuracy range, so they could read higher or lower than the correct reading. Very frustrating. I think that at least we know we're in the ballpark though and if readings are consistently in the 130's, 140's or 150's and higher, then we're going too high and it's a wake-up call. The best way to check your meter out is to bring it with you to your lab app't and test your blood with it right after they do your lab work, then compare the results. That may give you an idea of its accuracy but....given the accepted accuracy range it still might not match the lab results. I used to worry about
that but now I just accept the fact that it's a 'guideline'. I rotate using them and then maybe once a week, I'll use all four at the same time. And I don't test everyday if I've been in control and I've eaten nothing out of the ordinary. Good luck!
