Hi everyone. I have been MIA from Healingwell for quite some time, but I was once a moderator for Crohn's and UC boards. Anyway.... I have a new 4 month old baby boy. When I was pregnant I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. I was able to change my diet and control my numbers almost perfectly. My doctor was amazed. I was pretty sure they were all a little crazy.... but if I did something silly like eat a
cookie, then my numbers would go up to about
125 or so. So, I just didn't do that and it was all fine. After Evan was born I stuck to the diet for a few months, wanting to lose the pregnancy weight and all that. I fell off that wagon about
a month ago. about
the same time I started feeling sick. I have episodes where I feel like I'm about
2 seconds away from unconsciousness. I don't know how else to describe it. It's not like I'm sleepy, exactly, but I'm not really awake either. It has happened twice when driving. I had to pull over and have my husband continue driving. I have nausea almost all the time. Especially in the mornings and after I eat. My GI doctor sent me for an ultrasound to check for gallstones. Nope. Keeping the gall bladder for now. I noticed the other day that it seems like when I feel sick, it's when I have increased my sugar consumption. And, I have been terribly thirsty again, just like when I was pregnant. So, just for fun, I drug out the old meter and started checking things out. When I woke up this morning I was at 105. Not too bad, but much higher than it ever was when I was pregnant. Ate breakfast. Nothing good for me, of course. Sausage McGriddle and hashbrown. 2 hours later I'm sitting at 160. I know that's not good. I also have had an increasingly hard time driving at night. If it's raining at night, forget it. I'm staying wherever I am.
I know, I have to call the doctor and get back to eating real food....I just wanted to share my story and see what you all think. I see my GI on Monday regarding the Crohn's anyway, so hoping he can help me out here with a referral.
