Hot Flashes & Night Sweats

Hello-

I'm trying to find out if hot flashes and night sweats can be related to diabetes type II.  I started taking estrogen just a couple of months before I was diagnosed as diabetic because the hot flashes and night sweats were so horrible.  And now it is a few years later and my doc insisted I get off the estrogen (cancer risks etc) and the hot flashes are back in full force.  I have all female parts removed so it would make sense that is just forced menopause, but I've heard that diabetes can be a factor also.  

I've searched some of the diabetes sites but it doesn't seem to be anything more than a slight comment here and there.  Does anyone know if it is worth researching?

Thanks anyway Lanie. With all my conditions I probably read it in a crohns book instead of diabetes. I picked up some Estroven so we'll see if that helps. And I will talk to the doc when I see him in 2 weeks. It's bad enough to make a person crazy.

Omg I know the hot flashes and night sweats are awful. I'm only 28 but I was on a high dose steroid. I thought I was losing my mind but I knew it was hotflashes cuz my mother is going through menopause. So I asked my doctor why I was getting hotflashes and he told me it was from the medication I was taking at the time, and said "consider it a preview of what is to come". I almost smacked him! But it doesnt sound diabetes related. In the mean time up your vitamin b, vitamin c, magnisium and potsium. Hotflashes makes it lower in your body, thats why you should increase your intake. 50-60% people find vitamin E very helpful at 600-800 IU's a day. When hotflashes subside, take 400 IU's a day. Primrose oil- depending on the amount of primrose oil in each capsule, effective dosages vary from 2 to 8 capsules a day. Chickweed tincture (25 to 40 drops) once or twice a day reduces the severity and frequency of hot flashes. Use all cotton sheets and natural fibers. Use 10 to 25 drops of Motherwort extract three times a day or upon awakening with a night sweat. You will notice a difference in two to four weeks. For prompt relief, use an infusion of garden sage. And always talk to your doctor if it continues to be bothersome.

evening in primrose oil capsules always works for me

I am in total menopause stage and the past few years have had horrible hot flashes too my face dripping with sweat, they have decreased somewhat but I notice when I eat carbs they will come on such as potatoe chips, or bread or anything fatty I try to stay away from as they will make me sweat more. I never had these problems with carbs before, it is very confusing what is causing the flashes. I stay away from estrogen/prog. I thought for awhile it may be the melatonin I used since that is a hormone. I have noticed a hotflash right after taking that too. How long do these flashes last is my question?

What helps me with night sweats and hot flashes is eating soybeans. I either eat a handful of dried soybeans or sprinkle some boiled ones onto my salad. My doctor wouldn't let me take estrogen due to cancer risks (high risk factors in my family background) and also warned me away from Estroven, however she was very positive about eating soybeans. She said the way the soy is processed into pills increases the risk of cancer similar to estrogen but that eating the soybean does not.

I've been having night sweats every now and then too, but I'm a guy. Sometimes it's just the high blood glucose during the morning, or just another flu, but as soon as I get up, it stops just like my back pains. However, the nightly sweats stop appearing over time for me. So most likely in a few weeks time I'll be back to normal again, but I don't know what exactly causes it.
