insulin pumps

I've been through the process of getting the pump a few times but, never actually opted for it. I did have the opportunity to wear a CGMS for 6 days to see what being "hooked up" would be like.

Most D's I know love the freedom from needles that the pump gives. Most have better luck managing their BGLs with the pump's functions like dual wave & square wave bolusing for high carb/fat/protein meals, and suspending insulin for exercise and such. It's all at the push of a button as they say.

Personally, I've never had an issue with carrying my supplies or having to inject 5-7 times a day. I'm extremely active and I'm wee (small boned, 5'3", 112lbs) and prefer to inject than be attached to something. I still use the theory of "think like a pancreas" but, do it with MDI instead of a pump.

The head games, as I call them - carb counting, ratio calculating, BGL testing, etc. - are still the same with a pump as for injections. Both of them are just tools to help manage the 'D' and both require the same level of understanding how your own body/metabolism works.
