The low-sugar, high-cocoa chocolates are an
acquired taste. There was a time when I would (and would want to) eat a whole box of those chocolate-covered, marshmallow
cookies with the jam in the centre -- I mean, they're mostly air right? (
not!)
When I made my decision to eat better, I cut out chocolate entirely. That was OK for a while but I ended up craving/missing something. Then Jeannie/Lanie/somebody told me about
the high-cocoa, no-milk chocolate bars (Lindt 90% cocoa and the like ... reminded me of the Baker's Chocolate me mom used to use & I used to sneak of piece of when I was knee-high to a footstool). It took a while to retrain my brain & tastebuds but the chocolate squares are tolerable now .... even looked-forward to.
Getting creative, I learned to make a dessert out of a piece of cheese, a handful of cashews, some yogurt and a couple of squares of the Lindt bars (in that order ... the piece of fatty cheese slows down the absorption of the carbs in my experience but as Phish says, 'that's me' so YMMV). The upshot is that my brain now thinks I'm eating a chocolate sundae! Who am I to correct it? ;-)
An added incentive to not overdo (at least for us Canadians) is that even Wal-Mart charges about
$3.50 a bar for these
healthy foods so pigging out on them isn't a reality. Last week, I found another apparent generic alternative at Wal-Mart but after checking the label, it turns out that the 50% price saving would mean a double in carb content so that was a no-no.
Anyway, experiment on
you. I do it all the time. Eat ... test ... think ... decide
Chocolate roolze dudes & dudettes! (or whatever the kids say nowadays ;-)
