Yes I do enjoy going to the mall. :-)   It's not really for exercise, although my arms do get a real work out rolling myself around the mall. It is nice and cool in there and the flat floors are easy to push a wheel chair on but there are also a lot of people that keep cutting you of as they walk past me in my wheelchair. Almost smashed into a young women a few days ago as she cut in front of me. There is a lot to see at the mall.  I do alot of window shopping, can't afford to spend a whole lot.  One thing that still bothers me though is going past the shoe stores and seeing all the shoes in the window for sale.  I used to love shoe shopping.  I must of had at least sixty pair until I lost my legs a few years back.  Now I have no use for them at all.  Gave my huge collection of shoes to a nearby homeless shelter.  They said the women who come in would love them.  I was glad to help them and get them out of the house since all they did was take of space since I could no longer use them.  I can't use prosthethics my legs are amputated very high and they never worked for me. It makes me a bit sad though when I roll by these stores.  It reminds me of the good times I had when I would spend hours shipping for just the right pair of shoes.  I get over quickly though when I come to the next store and they might have clothes in the window or somthing else to look at.  Bought a new dress the last time I was there.  There still are plenty of things to shop for.

I can't say I know how you feel concerning not wearing shoes anymore. I'm just happy that you've adjusted so well and that you still enjoy shopping. Fall is right around the corner and the Fall colors will soon be out...I love the browns, golds and oranges of Autumn. I'm sorry that you encounter rude people in your mall shopping...some people are just in such a hurry...they will run over anybody. There are some fine folks out there also. I'm sure you've had the pleasure of meeting some of them. Jeers to the rude people and cheers to the nice people...you're one of the nice people and I hope you're having a great day today!

We did spend a couple of long weekends up at a friends cabin (lake home) this summer.  My husband did some fishing with his pal who owns the cabin which he likes to do when he can.  I tried fishing off the dock near the shore.  I didn't dare venture out very far as the dock was kind  of swaying in the breeze as it's one of those docks that floats and bobs up and down with the waves.  I didn't want to wind up in the lake with my wheelchair on top of me or something weird like that.  I spent most of my time just visiting with friends and I took a roll down the dirt road near the woods with the help of someone pushing me.  It was a nice realxing time and it was just fun to get away for a few days. It's been a busy summer and we didn't really take a vacation for any length of time. We are hoping to possibly take a vacation for a week or so sometime this fall or winter if things work out. Everything else is going quite well.

Hi Linda. Nice to hear from you! Glad to hear you've been "oot n' aboot" and enjoying life with that great attitude of yours :-)

In my city we have a mall where many folks walk/stroll before the stores even open. It's a one-level shopping plaza that's most accommodating to the elderly and physically challenged, with plenty of lounge areas to sit and relax, too. It became a mall popular to this activity so much so that they built a senior's centre attached right to it. The stores (except Sears and a couple of coffee stops) aren't open till 10:00 so, most use it before then.

I love this time of year!

Hi, Linda!  I don't come to this forum very much but I did see your post and have followed you for several years so I just had to drop in and say "Hi"!

 

I used to be a "shoe hound" too so I know that must be hard for you but you helped so many ladies by donating your shoes.  That was a blessing to them...for sure!

 

Speaking of blessings, you definitely are a blessing to all of us.  I'm sure you touch more lives than you realize.  Yes, you have gone through a lot in your life but you are a fighter and you are also an inspiration to many.  You manage to find the positive things in the negative things in your life.  You really are special.  I just wanted you to know that.

 

I'm happy to see that you are out and about these days and not letting anything stop you.  I hope you have a terrific autumn!

Glad to "see" you! I've been gone a bit and just stopped in to check out the forum. You are still one of my heroes... great attitude and very down to earth. What you said about shoes... (sigh!) I had my arch on my right foot fall and can't wear many "pretty" shoes at all any more. Somehow wearing New Balance cross trainers with a skirt while I sell wedding cakes at a bridal show... well, let's just say I stand behind the table now. But I've found a new vice! devil

Since I don't want anyone to notice my feet I wear spectacular earrings and remarkable necklaces! Works every time and makes me feel great! I've even started stringing beads for some really pretty sets. I also spend a little more time on my nails now so they look nice. Kind of helps me feel better.
