low carb, weight loss, Lantus

I haven't been on here in awhile due to crazy life dealing with my hubby's cancer. He just recently quit working, and I lost insurance coverage. I now have to pay for my Lantus and Novalog, which I can't afford, but don't think I qualify for much in the way of help. So I have gone back (I never should have quit) to the low carb diet. When I first joined this forum and learned about the diet, I did really well, getting my numbers down and losing 50 lbs. Then life dealt us a blow of first cancer in my son and then in my hubby, and I quit taking care of myself. The doc put me on insulin a couple of years ago when everything began to get crazy. So here's my question. I had no problem losing the weight on low carb before, but now it isn't budging. Activity levels and food consumption are the same as before. I have decreased the amount of insulin I was taking as my numbers are improving. Could the lack of weight loss be due to the insulin? Would it be beneficial to ask my doc to put me back on metformin along with the insulin? I am kind of at a loss here as to what to do?

Thanks, Lanie, for the link. I think I will ask the doc for some metfomin to help me out. Son is doing fine, hubby was diagnosed stage 4 malignant melanoma 2 years ago and is still here. With him it's just day to day. Right now everything is OK, but he is past the point of being able to work so has filed for disability. We could only afford COBRA for him, thus the need to try to lower my insulin doasge. Hopefully, the metformin will help.
