insulin issue

hi i have diabetes and i have had it for two years now and i have never been able to do the insulin injections myself my family has to like tackle me just to do it, and suggestions on how to do it myslef

yeah they told me how but i always pass out when i see needles or have to do it myself

The insulin pens are a godsend! I've been on insulin for almost 2 years, and using the pen for the last years. They are so much easier to carry with you and easier to use. All you have to do is dial up the unit dosage and stick the needle in and push. I was terrified when I first had to start giving myself shots, but I knew that I needed to do it for my health.

thank you this all really helps, i have been needing something like this for a while now and my docter hadnt told me about the insulin pen, i am heading over to kaiser later to go ask my doctor for a prescriptions :)

Interesting, I haven't used or even seen syringes for almost 20 years.. I didn't know they were still around. Even then I was the opposite - I was never able to let anyone else inject insulin into me. The first time a nurse hit me with one of those big syringes, she must have hit a nerve and I literally jumped 2 feet in the air in the hospital bed even when held down lightly, and ever since then I've insisted on injecting myself. It's curious, when I do it myself with the pen, it's more or less painless, but when someone else does it, I'm afraid the person is bound to mess something up, inject the wrong amount, hit the wrong spot, or something. They manufacturer different kind of needles and you can find one you like. These days they are really small. Just remember to vary the spot you inject in, and replace the needle.

I feel uncomfortable with big syringes around too. I don't feel like passing out or anything. But then these pen needles don't do anything to me, as long as I'm in control of the needle..

Don't worry too much about the spot. Rather than always hitting exactly inside the suggested areas, it's more important to change the site often, or for every injection even. I've been adviced to vary between my thighs, lower belly and buttocks, and I inject 6 times a day. No, I can't remember where I injected the last time, but I randomly pick some spot in the general area each time and it works out fine. Or you could go for a more systematical way of doing this if that worked for you.

I've never tried the arms because somehow it seems like a very awkward site for me to inject. The skin is very thin on my arms, and I can't actually help the injection with the other hand like I usually do. I guess some sites work better for others.

I'm with you, Angela.  I'm new at this too and I think it would really be tender in the arms.  It said the under arm and that is too tender for me.  So far, I'm using my thighs but I only have to use it once a day.

i mostly do thhe insulin in the stomach because i have not much feeling in my stomach, so it makes it easier, :) i am starting to learn to inject on ym own after two years of others doing it for me lol

yeah i remeber complaining about how they should make a pill, jim, thats a good idea, i think they can but just dont really try to, u know what i am geting at. one day all the diabetics should make a petition sort of thing and ask them to start working on a pill version., what can i say i am a dreamer :)
