Has anyone here has Simvistatin raise glucose readings

I've been on it for years, haven't noticed anything.  If your #s are rising, is it possible you are coming down with a cold, or some other issue going on?  More stress than usual?

I don't know.  I couldn't find anything about that when I Googled it.  Anything different going on?  diet, activity, being sick, different meds, nerves?

On another forum I hang on most people mention muscle pain rather than increased glucose from this med.  I don't get that either.

All statins have a chance of raising blood glucose and can cause type 2 diabetes.

Additional Information for Patients
Increases in blood sugar levels have been reported with statin use.
If you read down the page it is also stated that some statins have increased the incidence of diabetes by 27%
it also adds this...
FDA also reviewed the published medical literature.19-26 A meta-analysis by Sattar et al.,19 which included 13 statin trials with 91,140 participants, reported that statin therapy was associated with a 9% increased risk for incident diabetes.
The FDA still says the risk is less than the benefits of statin use.

there must be people here who are on statins, did it raise theirs too ?? Also you wonder IF the people go on statins and then eat everything

As far as statins causing diabetes, according to some studies, there's a small chance.  Who would be in that percentage?  Did their study examine the background of those who became diabetic?  Diabetes is on my mother's side and I myself am insulin resistant so it wouldn't be a surprise if a statin just tipped me in because I'm already predisposed to it.  On the other hand, if a person with no family history of diabetes and who has no history of blood sugar problems was in that group and that person developed diabetes, then I would be concerned about the drug.

I talked to my pharmisist ( spelling ? ) and he said " every single side effect MUST be listed, this sure isnt one of the top 3 and I take Lipitor myself "

My fasting glucose was always around 85-89 but last time it was 102..I do take it but have taken a statin over 10 yrs....no one in my family has diabietes but my 81 yr old mom is borderline

So, I wouldn't worry about the small percent then.  As people get older, they may become more insulin resistant and be diagnosed as "borderline".  This can easily be controlled with diet.  I wish your mom continued good health.

I am very allergic to a number of medications - statins included. While there is a back-and-forth over whether statins raise blood sugar, I can say that every time I reacted to medicine - especially the statins - the stress or reaction caused my sugar and blood pressure to go up. Those two numbers and the usual bright red rash are my indications that I cannot take a medicine. So even though my husband can take them, I cannot. And it is the drug reaction that causes my rise in blood glucose...not the side effects of the medicine. And as we all know - anything that puts our bodies under stress affects our blood glucose reading.

Yes, I had taken it a while back and my numbers rose.  It made me feel ill so my doctor changed me to Crestor, which, unfortunately, has no generic right now (3-4 more years until one comes out since the patent is so new.  Any Crestor you might find online will be imposters.)  Crestor has worked well for me without any side-effects.  I believe if you can tolerate a statin, the benefits outweigh the risks.

well IF and I stress IF Simvistain was the cause of the rising numbers, the Crestor SHOULD have caused it too..I believe they say Crestor raised fasting numbers MORE than Simvistatin

I take Simvistatin and it hasn't raised my blood sugar.  I do, however, take CoQ10 to prevent the muscle problem.  Statin drugs can deplete the body of the enzyme CoQ10 that is found in nearly every cell in the body.  I did develop muscle pain, so my doctor had me stop the Simvistatin, take 200 mg of CoQ10 a day (100 in AM & PM) and then start the Simvistatin again and continue taking CoQ10.  It worked.
