Hi Sugarless, I'm glad you found the Forum. You'll learn lots of useful information when you read back through the past topics here. I understand about the trouble with accepting having diabetes or living in denial because I did that for more than six months. When I actually had to monitor my blood sugar everyday, it hit me that uh oh I can't deny this. That's when I spent hours and hours online looking for information on how to deal with it. Suddenly, I didn't know what to eat. The diet my physician gave me to follow certainly didn't give me readings that these websites said I should have. Then, I found this forum and spent hours reading past topics. Well, long story. Then, it became a challenge to control my blood sugar while finding food I could eat. Lots of trials and errors. During that time, I learned of the glycemic index which helped me understand why I shouldn't eat some food. The better informed you are, the you'll be and the better you can avoid future health problems or complications if your blood sugar is normalized. So, you'll be fine. Maltitol is used in lots of "sugar free" food including snacks, cookies, etc. but you may find your blood sugar rises anyway. It may act more slowly or not give you a great spike like sugar does, but your body may react in a similar way as if you'd eaten sugar . Mine does. Someone gave me "sugar free" chocolate and I might as well have eaten the real thing, so I don't buy anything with those sugar alcohols anymore.
Hang in there.
