Just started seeing an endocrinologist for diabetes 2 after suffering from chronic stomach and intestinal problems for 30 days. She took me off metformin immediately and thankfully my stomach and intestinal symptoms were gone the following day. It was good to find out that the metformin was causing problems after suffering for so long. My family doctor didn't know what was wrong with me, it was good that I went to an endocrinologist.
The new dr. put me on two pills to substitute for metformin...glimepiride tabs 2mg and tradjenta 5mg a day, 15 minutes before eating. The dr. has prescribed trulicity which I'm waiting for and I was told to stop taking the tradjenta once the trulicity pens arrive.
Last week I stopped taking omeprazole since hearing it may cause/ be connected to dementia and or Alzheimer's Disease.
A miracle has occurred, my blood sugar numbers dropped to 100 before breakfast and the highest was 130 2-hours after dinner! This trend is continuing for over a week. The readings when taking omeprazole were over 130 fasting and 200 after a meal. Something has lowered my levels since with the two new tablets my numbers were still high. The only recent difference was stopping the omeprazole.
Thanks to all who discussed this issue because now I'm thinking there may be a reason my blood sugar levels have dropped. At the end of the month I see my dr. and share with her my blood sugar log. I look forward to her input on the subject.
