Help Me Understand

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if I have asked this here before. I have been on Healing Well on the Lupus page (not diagnosed but receiving treatment). I was looking through my medical records and saw Diabetes Mellitus I dont remember being told I was diabetic. My doctor and I did talk before and she told me I was pre-diabetic. When the heck did I switch over to diabetic?i am not on insulin. I think with all my other issues this might have been overlooked. I think I am going to call and make an appointment.

Has this happened to anyone else? Just looked at your records and noticed you had been diagnosed with something.

Hi MizPiggy just one question are you looking at the Lab results part of the report or the Doctors comments part just curious

Hi Connie, if your doctor noted that on your chart, then it must be that a blood test came back in the parameters of diabetes levels. Still, I am surprised that he did not act on this and suggest some kind of dietary and lifestyle adjustments and have you return for follow-up blood work.

So, I still say you need to get back in touch with him and bring this up. You need to know what your blood tests showed, what your blood sugar results were. And as we're rolling into Christmas, I know some offices are going to be closed for some days, so please get an appointment when you can to get this sorted out.

When you view your records, do you find any blood sugar test results?

Kurrykid, I agree with you that doctors or their staff should absolutely contact the patients after tests are done. In fact, I thought that's the normal way of doing things. At least it used to be that way. I don't understand why some doctors don't do this. So, we patients do need to be our own advocates and ask for hard copies of our tests and pursue another follow-up appointment to discuss them, what they mean and what course of action is needed because of the results. I get that they have busy schedules and sometimes think that a phone call to give the results is acceptable but if we are confused or otherwise in the dark, then I think we have to make an appointment to see the doctor again about those tests. Of course, that means another co-pay on our part.

My doctor's office now is part of a system that has our records, appointments, test results, questions, etc. on a secure website that we patients log into with a username and password, so I can see all my test results which have links to info and interpretation pages about the tests. Recently, I used a function of this to ask my doctor about one of the tests and I got an answer on that site two days later. (Of course this is not for reporting emergencies.) The good news is that there are more doctors who are part of this kind of system. Here in Memphis there are dueling entities between the two largest healthcare/hospital providers but their patient record systems are different. Most doctors are affiliated with certain hospitals and I 'think' if that's the case, then their patients would be able to use whichever online medical record system is used - you don't have to be a hospital patient, of course.

Sorry to be long-winded, but since I AM a patient who has tests and conditions, then I feel very strongly about knowing what's going on with me and my tests!

Hi there again! Thanks for the update! I'm really glad you had new tests and will start off the new year from square one, sort of, anyway! I hope the results are good. I hope you report back!
